UK’s Christmas Number One – Let The Countdown Begin

  • Print

Birmingham UK based band Corvus have launched their bid for international Christmas chart domination with 'Can You Hear the Sleigh Bells Ringing?' a classic rock infused Christmas single in the same vein as The Darkness' hugely successful 'Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End)'.

Though unashamedly fun, this is also a really infectious single from a band who are all successful session musicians, they actually met whilst working on an album together in 2012. Check out Corvus singing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxMca1kWkh4

All support for Corvus in their pursuit of as many Christmas number ones they can gather from around the world is obviously very appreciated and immediately places you on Father Christmas' list of nice people. And we all know what that means.

Onto some very sad news - Craig Gill, drummer for the Inspiral Carpets passed away earlier this week. Craig wasn't just part of an iconic band that helped to define a musical era, he was a very popular and involved figure on Manchester's music scene, both through his work as a DJ and his music tours of the city. He was a lovely man and a good friend to many.

Fans and friends have got together to launch a bid to get Inspiral Carpets' 'Saturn 5' to Christmas number one to honour Craig's contribution to music in the UK - full details are on this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Saturn5XmasNo1/

In the summer months of 2012, four experienced session musicians Ciaran James (Vocals), John Clews (Guitars), Nick Jeavons (Keyboards), and Jordan Brown (Bass), were summoned to a recording studio in Central Birmingham to provide their services on the recording of a double album. Finding they had a shared love of Classic Rock, they stayed in touch and Corvus was born!

Mixing contemporary pop rock with the classic melodic rock rollercoaster sounds of the late 1970s and 80s, Corvus are on a mission to bring forth a whole new breed of classic rock.

The band name came from a conversation between Ciaran and John about star constellations; Ciaran suggested ‘Corvus’ meaning Crow. John wasn't immediately convinced, but came round to the idea when Ciaran told him that shirtless he looks a bit like Brandon Lee from the Crow!
Songwriting sessions followed resulting in 'Chasing Miracles', a musical journey that elicits nostalgia in older listeners whilst greeting new listeners with something powerful and meaningful. The title track came about from a philosophical John evaluating his own life and what he hoped to achieve; from there the tagline Chasing Miracles became a motto for the entire band to follow and something to pursue.

The album was released in the Summer of 2015 and received wide critical acclaim as one of the best Indie Rock albums of 2015; gaining huge praise from online forums and reviewers.

Their single, title track ‘Chasing Miracles’ was featured on numerous European Classic Rock sites and was labelled as one of the best AOR singles of the year. Their follow-up ‘When You Love Someone’ received just as much praise.

Jordan chose to leave the band early 2016 and Tom McHugh was recruited as his replacement. Many concerts followed with the band gaining support slots for 80s legends T’Pau and Big Country. Corvus are earning a dedicated and growing following, who are set to be delighted again with lead songwriter John Clews' foray into the tradition of the Christmas single. 'Can You Hear The Sleigh Bells Ringing?’ is a song that stands strong on its own merit and comes gift wrapped for your festive listening pleasure!
