INSURGENT MEDIA Signs First-Look Deal with Veteran Producer Cathy Konrad

Insurgent Media has signed a first-look deal with veteran film and television producer Cathy Konrad. "Cicada 3301," an espionage thriller series based on true events surrounding the global online code-breaking phenomenon of the same name, is the first project to be developed.

Konrad has produced a long list of iconic films including the critically acclaimed Golden Globe Winner Walk the Line310 to Yuma, Girl, Interrupted and Kids. Konrad is widely recognized in the industry for helping launch the careers of new filmmakers and writers, as well as for her choices in material, which have proven to be both artistically progressive and commercially viable.

Konrad also currently has two second season shows on air, "Zoo" for CBS, and "Scream" for MTV, based on the ground breaking horror franchise that she developed and produced, and that grossed more than $350 million worldwide. Insurgent Media is ramping up with a team of creative partners led by Ezna Sands, who is overseeing creative content and development.

"I have been fortunate in my career to work with partners who share my taste and passion for both genre and character stories," said Konrad. "While working with the Insurgent team, it has become clear, very quickly, that we share a similar aesthetic and sensibility for storytelling, and that we are in sync with regards to the talent we want to be in business with and support creatively.

Insurgent has the ability to develop and finance material, and they have a keen interest in creating content across all media platforms. I am excited by the opportunity to collaborate with them and help build a great slate."

"Our brand of content is bold, edgy and thought-provoking. We like entertainment that stays with you after the credits roll," added Insurgent Media's Ezna Sands. "Cathy shares this philosophy, as evidenced by the many groundbreaking films she's produced over the years.  Her wealth of experience, impeccable taste and deep relationships will fuel our growing slate of projects."

Looking back at events that mystified the world, "Cicada 3301" will re-trace the events of January 4th, 2012, when an anonymous message was posted online looking to recruit "highly intelligent individuals". Based on true events, the trans-media TV series will use access to the minds behind the mystery in unfolding a story of espionage, religious fervor and terrorism, ultimately requiring the audience themselves to crack the code that stunned society. Cathy Konrad will produce alongside Ezna Sands and Ashley Richardson for Insurgent Media.

With offices in New York and Los Angeles, Insurgent Media develops, produces and finances an extensive slate of film, television, transmedia and Broadway properties.  Primarily driven by edgy subject matter with a focus on nurturing its talent relationships, the company produces heavyweight scripted drama and bold non-scripted formats.

Insurgent Media was founded by Academy Award Winning filmmaker/actor Fisher Stevens (The Cove) who currently runs Insurgent Docs from New York, with its Los Angeles based executive team headed up by Ezna Sands (CEO), with Dean Zanuck (Road to Perdition) driving physical production while Ashley Richardson leads the company's unscripted and digital activity.
