NATO Summit

President Biden reiterated his backing of Sweden for NATO membership during a press conference this week, indicating he deeply values the bilateral partnership the two nations share. Sweden and Finland each applied for NATO membership in July 2022.

Turkey and Hungary has remained opposed to Sweden's acceptance into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization indicating "Turkey says Stockholm harbours members of what it considers terrorist groups - a charge Sweden denies - and has demanded their extradition as a step toward ratifying Swedish membership. Sweden's courts have blocked some expulsions," Reuters reported.

While President Biden, explicitly backs the acceptance of Sweden's application, he has also stated, in an interview that aired in CNN Sunday, the Ukraine, which has also applied for membership, is not ready.

The NATO summit begins this week in Lithuania.

Dutch Government Collapses

Immigration has remained a contentious issue throughout the world. Every nation confronts the same issues: how to handle the immigrant's fleeing poverty and fleeing persecution. While the United States has stricter policies than European nations that problems nations confront remains largely similar.

This issue played heavily in the recent collapse of the Dutch government which resulted in name, the prime minister of The Netherlands, Mark Rutte, submitting his resignation latter to King Willem-Alexander. He remains the government "keeper," essentially a place holder until elections can be held in September.

"With his government feeling pressured on the migration issue by parties to the right, Mr. Rutte had been talking for months to his coalition partners about measures to further control the number of refugees coming into the country. On Friday night, the parties decided they could not come to a compromise and chose to dissolve the coalition, plunging the country into political uncertainty," reported The New York Times.

The cascading events that effectively derailed the four parties that comprise the Dutch governments party system resulted in "irreconcilable differences" and a situation untenable for the current prime minister.

Welcoming migrants into a country can exasperate the nation's already challenging social structures, The Netherlands is no different. The housing shortage for native born citizens in The Netherlands is skyrocketing, homeless numbers have doubled, the scarcity of jobs that can match the high cost of living, and social services are all situations that are already driving the population to demonstrate at The Hauge.

The responsibilities of governments are not to burden the people with unreasonable debt, and low income employment, but to provide the resources to meet the challenges of the ever-changing world and if blocking or limiting immigration is the key and a hard choice needs to be made.

"Attje Kuiken, the leader of the Dutch Labor Party, wrote on Twitter that "Mark Rutte is done governing." She added that she wanted new elections quickly, "because the Netherlands needs a government that shows vigor and makes decisions," reported The New York Times.

Abortion Rights Heat Up Ballots

The June 2022 Supreme Court decision that overturned the landmarked Roe vs. Wade legislation has continues to dominate state elections as Abortion Advocates in many states are taking the issue to the constituents and galvanizing support for a woman's right to choose her own reproductive care.

"Voters in six states, including conservative ones such as Kentucky and Kansas, voted to protect or establish a right to abortion in their constitutions in last year's elections, and abortion rights advocates in about 10 other states are considering similar plans," The New York Times reported.

Ohio has become that most recent state to challenge the SCOTUS decision and has already collected more than 700,000 signatures across Ohio's 88 counties against the 400,000 signatures needed to add an issue to the state ballots.

Even as the conservative leaning Supreme Court views the common female citizen as mentally incapable to choose reproductive care, the common citizens are exercising their rights to petition their government for change.

El Paso Shooter

Patrick Crusius, 24, a self-professed white supremacist, was sentenced this week to 90 consecutive life terms without the chance of parole, for killing 23 and injuring 22, in the August 3, 2019, El Paso Wal-Mart mass shooting.

Crusius admitted driving more than eight hours from Dallas, Texas, to El Paso, more than 600 miles, for the sole purpose of murdering Hispanics. He also posted a hate filled manifesto in which he blamed Hispanics for the "Hispanic invasion."

"Crusius agreed to the 90 life sentences in his plea agreement, one for each count on which he was indicted — 45 counts of a hate-crime-related charge and 45 counts of using a firearm during violent crimes. He also pleaded guilty to other hate-crime and firearm charges relating to the 22 people injured," reported The Washington Post.

Texas, which executes the most death row inmates in the United States, will undoubtedly convict Crusius on state charges when his trial begins next month and will sentence him to death.

Yusef Salaam, Wrongly Accused and Imprisoned, Wins Harlem Democratic Primary

Yusef Salaam, one of the five individuals arrested, convicted, and imprisoned, in the notorious Central Park Five case the gripped the city 34 years ago, has won the Harlem Democratic primary for the New York City Council.

"It's an improbable feat for a political novice who was wrongly accused, convicted and imprisoned as a teenager for the rape and beating of a white jogger in Central Park," reported The Associated Press.

The win placed him on the ballot this November where he is likely to win his district.

The victory begins a new chapter for Salaam and closes the books on the cities notorious prosecution policy under former Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau, where the rush to find suitable suspect, of the right race, to squash the fears of the cities white elite voters, political community and deep pocketed donors dictated decisions.

We've all learned since then white rapists run the streets free without the fear of prosecution.

Alzheimer Drug Gets Full FDA Approval

The Food & Drug Administration, this week, fully approved an Alzheimer drug, Leqembi (Le-kem-bee), for use and Medicare has agreed to cover 80% of the cost of use in the nearly 1million patients who are eligible.

Although the FDA gave its full approval it also added a "black box" warning which details severe and possible fatal side-effects which included brain bleeds.

"Leqembi cannot repair cognitive damage, reverse the course of the disease or stop it from getting worse. But data from a large clinical trial suggests that the drug — administered every two weeks as an intravenous infusion — may slow decline by about five months over about 18 months for people with mild symptoms," The New York Times reported.

Even with the medical advances, individuals familiar with the medical trails and the FDA indicated the Leqembi may not be the miracle drug Alzheimer sufferers and their families are desperate to find, which is similar to the lack of substantial evidence of results presented that has been constantly shadowing Biogen's miracle drug, Adulhelm, since its introduction in 2021.

Biogen partnered with the Asian pharmaceutical company Eisai on the testing and development of Legembi and is splitting the profits.

Extreme Heat Expected across the Southwest

Phoenix, New Mexico, Las Vegas, Nevada is expected to have a period of extreme heat by the middle of this week. Temperatures are expected to reach 120 degrees in Phoenix and 110 degrees in Las Vegas.

"Temperatures of 110 to 120 degrees are also slated to be common across Southern California's deserts into next week, along with 100 to 105 in the Central Valley," The Washington Post reported.

The effect of the extreme heat is the rapid melting of the snowpacks which can trigger isolated flash flooding, and in climates with no vegetation due to fire or other extreme weather phenomena this can produce quick and deadly mudslides.

Residents in the Southwest are encouraged to check for cooling centers and remain indoors during the daytime peak hours. Never leave children, pets, or any person who cannot freely exit alone in a vehicle.

1.5 Degrees Celsius

The global warming benchmark, 1.5 degree Celsius, which international Climate activists have indicated marks a shift in the planets ability to sustain itself and launches a series of cataclysmic residual effects including extreme shifts in weather patterns, more very hot days, the melting of the icecaps, very warm ocean temperatures which will result in frequency of catastrophic hurricanes as the warm ocean water fuels rapid development, unfortunately that day has arrived.

Along with atmospheric temperature increases, the earth's surface temperature on Monday July 3, 2023 marked the "Earth's hottest day in at least 125,000 years. Tuesday was hotter. "We have never seen anything like this before," said Carlo Buontempo, director of Europe's Copernicus Climate Change Service. He said any number of charts and graphs on Earth's climate are showing, quite literally, that "we are in uncharted territory,"' The Washington Post reported.

While the earth's temperature is not consistently at the 1.5 degree mark, it is increasing and if measures to reverse elements that directly contribute to the rise in the earth's core temperature are not quickly implemented by 2030, in just seven years, mankind will see a shift in the ability to fight diseases which will result in rapid advancement of epidemics and pandemics, the increase in coastal flooding, weather phenomenon, and the rapid decline of mankind's ability to adapt.
