The deadly tornado's that struck Tennessee Monday evening leaving 25 dead, have been determined to be EF 4, the second deadliest on the Fujita scale, packing winds of 175mph, the ten-mile-wide storm leveled an enormous swath across two counties.

The early morning twisters, striking just after 2:00AM, created a sustained high wind debris field that resembled an explosion as homes were splintered and imploded, walls and roofs pulled offs, fragmented and split trees, downed power lines, automobiles tossed like toys, and a remarkably low, and non the less devastating, death toll.

Piles of rubble, cement blocks, shattered glass, and foundations now stand where three days ago, homes stood. Today, residents of both Putnam and Davidson, the home of Nashville, counties have been gathering the few belongings, and any personal effects that they were able to find as they searched the debris.

The Fujita scale determines for an EF 4 the likelihood of "Extreme damage" across the path of the storm. "Well constructed homes are leveled, cars are thrown significant distances, top story exterior walls of masonry buildings would likely collapse."

A total of 25 Tennesseans lost their lives during Monday evenings deadly tornado, 18 from Putnam County and seven from Davidson. Five of the deaths were children under five, several families were totally killed. There have been both horror stories and stories of heroism, miracles and heartache. Survival, many would say, is a miracle. The heartache of course of the missing and lost.

Another 88 were injured, some of them critically. Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter shared a photo the morning after the storms of an American flag being raised amid the destruction, saying "our county is in mourning tonight with the devastating loss we suffered,"' Fox News reported.
