Tribeca Film Festival 2015 Set To Begin

The annual Tribeca Film Festival is poised to begin its 14th season bringing the world to the New York City center stage with ten days of fun, film, and free events celebrating the resurgence of lower Manhattan.

Tribeca Film Festival, runs from April 15 through April 26, has virtually opened the doors to the public presenting a platform of events for all New Yorkers to enjoy.

Tribeca Film Festival Gives Back

Tribeca Film Festival gives back to the people of New York City with an even more opportunities for everyone from every neighborhood to be a part of the Film Festival whose roots were planted on the day this city saw its greatest tragedy.

Fifteen years later the festival has grown and become a go to for film makers from all corners as its offerings are as diverse as the city itself. A different language on every corner, a new neighborhood steps away, Tribeca Film Festival celebrates the diversity of New York by bringing the world of film, the humanity of filmmakers who through the lens capture the unknown and see the unimagined. Take part in the celebration!

FILM FOR ALL

Tribeca Film Festival offers Free Friday, sponsored by AT&T, on April 24, and showcases more than 100 films free at several different theater venues including Regal Battery Park Stadium 11, Bow Tie Cinema 260 W. 23rd Street and SVA Theater 333 W. 23rd Street.

TRIBECA FAMILY FESTIVAL STREET FAIR

The annual Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair hosts upwards of 50K visitors as Greenwich Street becomes a carnival of fun for all ages. Street Fair runs north of Chambers Street. The Festival is Saturday, April 25 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Throughout the day fans of all ages can enjoy the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day. Free for all, athletes of all ages and all levels can participate in a wide variety of sports, games, and challenges and meet their favorite New York Athletes and mascots.

Cap this incredible day by enjoying a truly great, comedy adventure film, Back to the Future. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg, Back to the Future, a family favorite, is celebrating 30 years and this genuinely funny trip back in time still delivers laughs for a new generation. Starring Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox. Back to the Future became the foundation for the masterful and most successful trilogy in film history.

Back to the Future will be shown in an open air Drive In theater on the promenade at Battery Park City. It tends to be chilly and could be windy on the water bring a jacket or blanket or both as many do.

TRIBECA DRIVE IN

For those who miss the Drive in Experience of yesteryear, Tribeca Film Festival has modernized and made an open air event on the promenade at Battery Park City. It tends to be chilly on the water so bring a sweater, or blanket, r both, pack a picnic or snack for the kids and stroll into the TFF Drive In.

Rain or shine, no ticket necessary Tribeca Film Festival has lined up three different films, fits for the entire family to enjoy.

Pre-show activities begin at 6:00PM and films at dusk or about 8:15pm. Featured this year are on Thursday, April 16, CLUE, a cult comedy classic; on Friday, April 17, a family favorite and WALT Disney Classic, LADY AND THE TRAMP,  and on Saturday April 18, A FASTER HORSE, for the auto enthusiast and everyone who every enjoyed simply watching a FORD mustang drive by. A sweet collaboration as the ‘stang turns 50. Not lost in middle age the Mustang has been redefined for a new generation. As American as the Drive in itself.

CLOSING FILM

What better way to bring the festival back to its roots then a tribute showing of Martin Scorsese’s GoodFellows, the original mobster film based on the bestseller of true life mobster Henry Hill and his rise in the Mafioso ranks. Goodfellows stars Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco, Paul Sorvino, Frank Vincent, Samuel L. Jackson, Illeana Douglas and Debi Mazar. Goodfellows celebrates its 25th anniversary. Tickets are necessary for this film.
