Murder Suspect James DiMaggio Killed in FBI Shootout

James Lee DiMaggio, the man suspected of kidnapping Hannah Anderson and murdering her mother and brother has been killed in a shootout with law enforcement officers in the Cascade Mountains of Idaho.

DiMaggio and Anderson were spotted backpacking two days ago in Frank Church River in The River of No Return wilderness about 15 miles from Cascade.

Hannah Anderson, 16, is reportedly doing well after being rescued. The teenager was the subject of an “unusual infatuation” by the man who was considered a good friend of the family and even an uncle to the children he is believed to have murdered and kidnapped.

Over 250 federal, state and local police combed the rugged terrain after DiMaggio abandoned his car and he and Anderson were hiking through the think, mountainous region.

DiMaggio was believed to have kidnapped both Hannah and her younger brother Ethan Anderson, 8, one week ago. Ethan along with his mother, Christiana Anderson were found dead in the charred remains of his home, in Lakeside, California a small suburb of San Diego.

Police have not released any further information regarding a possible motive or other insights Ms. Anderson may be able to provide.
