Aussies Suffer Loss of Innocence with Compounded Tragedies

Australian's are reeling as a string of tragic and deeply distressing events over the past three weeks, beginning with the death of Cricketer Philip Hughes, have propelled the land down under onto the global stage for all the sorrowful and wrong reasons.

 

Sydney Siege

In the past week Australians have suffered with the world as the terrorist hostage siege at the Lindt Chocolate Cafe, a 17 hour ordeal unfolded in the financial district of Sydney, almost a world away from the southeastern city of Cairns located on the Gold Coast known to divers and others heading off for holiday near the great Barrier Reef.

Two of the 17 hostages, both employees, died in the siege along with a Police officer. The terrorist was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Eight Children Murdered in Queensland

Before the national mourning period had ended, word drifted in from the coast, a gruesome and unbelievable murder scene where eight children, babies, toddlers, and teens brutally viciously stabbed by an unknown assailant.

Cricketer Philip Hughes

Not one month ago, the nation was cast into a national mourning period over the death of beloved cricket star, Philip Hughes, who during play was hit with the ball at a place in his neck that was not covered by the helmet and tragically and immediately fell from the instant brain injury caused.

The rarity of the hit, by a 5oz ball, caused what is known as an immediately artery dissection. The blood flow released to the brain caused instant loss of consciousness of which he did not recover.

Philip Hughes was pronounced dead November 27, 2014.
