Girl, 10, Loses Life Saving Two Toddlers

Kiera Larsen, a vibrant and heroic ten year old, was tragically run over by an SUV as she and two younger children, whom she saved, played in the driveway of the family’s country home in Lakeside, California.

Larsen, from police reports, was playing the driveway with Adison Gusich, 1, and Emma Gusich, 2, when for unknown reasons the 1999 Mercedes-Benz SUV began to roll backwards. There was no driver in the vehicle and the engine was not running.

Parents of the toddlers, Alison Jenkins and Jonathan Guisch, said, Kiera “was a bug sister to them.” She often acted as a guardian to the children, as the three would play in the fields and was smart enough to call for help.

Unfortunately before she could get herself out of harm’s way she was struck as the SUV rolled backward, gaining speed and momentum. Kiera was thrown through a fence.

She was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital where she died from her injuries.

At the moment, authorities don’t know why the SUV began rolling down the driveway towards the toddlers.

California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein stated: “We’re going to do an inspection on the vehicle, find out why this happened, find out if there was some sort of malfunction on the vehicle and go from there.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family in burial expenses.
