Celebrity Photos: Reba Merrill Reports - Behind The Glam, Glitz and Glitter of Awards Season

In Hollywood, November through February is the most wonderful time of the year. In addition to holiday happenings it is the time of the year when Awards Season begins and the most interesting films open along with reminders of earlier great releases.

But, winning an Oscar or Golden Globe takes more than just excellent work or a good film… it takes a campaign. As a voting member of the motion picture academy, it is like having a golden ticket to the best parties; dinner at the Palm, lunch at the Four Seasons, schmoozing with some of my all-time favorite filmmakers and stars, and after 20 years in Hollywood, there are always lots of familiar faces in the room.

Although some are a bit altered. The biggest rivalry for relevance is between the Golden Globe and the Oscars and once again the Globes will be aired before the Academy Award nominations are even read, but a Globe win does not assure an Oscar nomination.

The next major difference between the two are the categories. The Martian as best Comedy or Musical? Congratulations to Harry Gregson-Williams for his moving score.

The last thing of note is that the Golden Globes are decided by a group of 90 voters, journalist, some from very obscure publications, while the Oscar voting is open to thousands of industry peers.

But when it comes to an entertaining TV show, the Golden Globes wins hands down! It is a freewheeling evening, where the champagne is at the table and at the end of the night, the room is still filled with Oscar hopefuls. Remember the nominations are announced 4 days after the show.

So get comfortable and watch the razzle dazzle as Hollywood honors itself and generates bigger box office at the same time.

Get ready, award season is in full bloom.
