World News: France and the U.S. Spy Ball Affair

The renewed tensions between Beijing and Washington, linked to the spy balloon affair, also reveal Beijing's desire to re-enter the global diplomatic game after the fiasco of the management of the umpteenth wave of Covid and the resistance.

Amazing. This is certainly the most appropriate term to describe the origins of the diplomatic incident between China and the United States, which revolved around a spy balloon sailing over the North American territory. A trivial case of espionage will say some, and rightly so, because it is also very likely that the United States is spying in other ways, or not, China.

But through the prism of the current geopolitical context, it finally appears that this case is not trivial. Thus, while Europe is struggling with a war where everyone, from Kiev to Moscow, counts his allies, Xi Jinping's China may also have wanted to show the West and Washington in   p. Moscow, like Kiev, had heavy, equipped allies likely to interfere in the conflict.

Marginalization

Rather than getting involved through arms deliveries or sending soldiers on Ukrainian soil, which would  not fail to cause a chain reaction capable of generating potential. In Western retaliation, China has thus avoided the means at its disposal to inconvenience its best enemy, namely the United States, annoyed and irritated by the maneuver. More than by the ball itself.

For no one will be   naïve enough to think that this gesture was a mere accident,  an unfortunate or fortuitous coincidence, when these same United States renewed its support for Kiev to the anger of Vladimir Putin. But the Ukrainian dimension may not be the only one. Somewhat marginalized after its recent wave of Soviet affairs, tossed around by the US-backed passive resistance of Taiwan, Beijing has certainly sought to do the same.

To remember the good memory of the  international community   by demonstrating once again to the United States that it  was a power it counted, capable of projecting itself  outside its borders and this even if the balloon in question was ruthlessly shot down by the United States.

The tension arising from this incident, which will subside in a few  days, at the latest a few weeks, demonstrates, if need be,   that the grievances between   Beijing and Washington are still   also perennial and do not seem ready to die out.

They also demonstrate above all how much the   point of global balance is not to be sought between Moscow and Washington but between Beijing and Washington.  And in this diplomatic game it could well be Vladimir Putin's   Russia that risks paying the price for the indispensable détente between the Middle Kingdom and the homeland of Uncle Sam, the first of the two being aware of the imperative to maintain at least cordial relations with the latter, even if it means sacrificing the Russian ally.
