The Last Deal Review – An Intriguing, Suspenseful, Surprising Indie

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

The Last Deal, from Scatena & Rosner Films, presents an attention-grabbing story of a black-market cannabis dealer living large in LA, and the sudden fall out when the state votes to legalize recreational weed use.

The film begins with Vince, played by Anthony Molinari, walking through a typical day in the life of the LA weed dealer before state legislation. He visits Inland Empire grow farms, with societal drop outs now becoming Green Rush millionaires and using their skills to grow plants with surprisingly large buds, and buying 50lb bags of uncut buds, and barrels of 200lbs of the same all packed in shipping crates and sent to LA to be sold through dispensaries to the Golden State's burgeoning community of weed smokers.

The Pod Generation Review – Funny, Romantic, Futuristic Satire

We get the walk-through of his bursting business, which is growing so fast he has to hire delivery drivers, and like every other home delivery service, weed can be ordered online and delivered securing the privacy and convenience.

His life, it seems, is set and no plan b needed. Of course, this was all pre legislation. Once "flower," as weed is now called, becomes legal and the state sets up the Cannibals Regulatory division, we see everyone has their hand out for a piece of the Green Rush action.

With limited dispensary licenses available, Vince is limited to delivery services, which is depleting his business and as everything that makes this kind of money, has politicians somewhere in the mix, wanting a piece of the pie, Vince is forced to get his flower from other sources.

The Inspection Review – Poignant Debut Film, Gritty and Honest

His business partner, Bobby, played by Mister Fitzgerald, introduces him to a group of Armenian businessmen, who deal in securing regulatory weed on the black market. His business, once flush, is nearly depleted and he needs one last score to flip his business from red to black.

So, on the advice of his business partner they set up the deal, and to facilitate the financial end, the borrow from The Boss, played by Sala Baker, who is essentially a loan shark, and provides the cash, if they agree to the terms: seven days to repay, plus interest and his delivery license as collateral.

Once the deal is made, the stakes immediately rise to astronomical levels especially as the once flush flower business was drying up. Even as Vince and Bobby drive the van to the trimming warehouse, the tension is palpable. With so much at stake, it would seem logical for one of them to sit with the van and yet neither of our entrepreneurs feel the need.

Emily The Criminal Review – Sharp, A Pulsating Thriller

By morning we see from the surveillance tape, a hooded figure steps out of the back of the van and drives away. And the clock starts.

The Last Deal is an intriguing, suspenseful, thriller. From the beginning the film hooks the viewer with an insiders look into the world of legal cannabis and the high highs and low lows of the drug trade. And of course, it is still trafficking.

Attention-grabbing, engaging, intriguing, The Last Deal opens in select cities nationwide, Friday, February 3, 2023, and on VOD February 7, 2023. See it.
