Vertical Entertainment Gets Hairbrained

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 1, 2012) – Vertical Entertainment has acquired all U.S. rights to the college comedy HAIRBRAINED, starring Brendan Fraser (The Mummy franchise, Journey to the Center of the Universe) and Alex Wolff (HBO’s “In Treatment, The Sitter) ahead of the 2013 American Film Market.

Directed by Billy Kent (The O in Ohio) and written by Sarah Bird, Adam Wierzbianski and Kent, HAIRBRAINED is scheduled for release in February 2014.  Vertical Entertainment’s President Rich Goldberg announced the deal today.

“The producing team of HAIRBRAINED has done a wonderful job putting this film together and bringing Brendan Fraser back to his roots,” says Goldberg.  “The film draws parallels to his performances in Encino Man and Blast from the Past - movies that put him on the map.  Alex Wolff’s breakthrough performance as Eli is not to be overlooked either. We are extremely excited to bring this to theatres in 2014.”

HAIRBRAINED was produced by Sarah Bird, Billy Kent and Avram Ludwig and executive produced by Stacy Blain, Stephanie Ingrassia, Tim Ingrassia and Jason Mraz.  The deal was negotiated by Peter Jarowey on behalf of Vertical Entertainment and Premiere Entertainment’s Elias Axume on behalf of the filmmakers.

After being rejected from Harvard University, 14-year old genius and outcast Eli Pettifog (Alex Wolff) finds himself at Whittman College, an Ivy League wannabe.  Eli meets 41- year-old freshman Leo Searly (Brendan Fraser), a gambler whose world has imploded and has dropped out of life to enroll in college.  The odd duo becomes unlikely friends in this comedic, coming of age film.
