Ukraine War

With the Ukraine-Russian War entering its third month, the long-term strategy of Russian President Vladimir Putin may have changed, as the world continues to unite behind Ukraine, and Putin's limited freedom in the region has been reduced with the announcement of Finland and Sweden's decision to seek NATO membership.

Russian Troops, either by choice or lack of training, are proving relatively unable to secure the expected wins that were once thought to be inevitable. The shift from major cities of Kyiv, and KharKiv, to the Donbas area, which has long been used by Putin to begin false flag operations against the Ukraine, is expected to

"After failing to capture Kyiv following the Feb. 24 invasion, Russian President Vladimir Putin has shifted his focus eastward to the Donbas, an industrial region where Ukraine has battled Moscow-backed separatists since 2014," APnews.com reported.

The Donbas region which had been stocked with pro-Russian separatists since Russia violated the territorial sovereignty of Ukraine with the takeover of Crimean Peninsula, in March of 2014. It was here that Putin, though these pro-Russian troops had initially tried to begin the takeover of Ukraine.

With the takeover of the Crimean secure, in 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin, moved on his plan to incrementally increase the Russian border to resemble the U.S.S.R. borders, which included breakaway nation Ukraine, and to create the premise for engagement his pro-separatist troops in Donbus region shot down a passenger airplane.

"The destruction of MH17 on July 17, 2014, sparked outrage, and accusations. Russia — and Russian separatists in Ukraine — continue to deny any responsibility. Dutch prosecutors have accused Russia of undermining the investigation," reported The Washington Post.

Aboard the ill-fated jetliner were tops AIDS researcher, Joep Lange, as well as others who were headed to Melbourne, Australia for the International AIDS conference. The death was said to set the research and cause back twenty years.

For Putin, and his plan to rebuild the Soviet Union, and leave a legacy, all lives, any cause is expendable.

Mariupol Fighting Continues

Intense fighting has continued in Mariupol, also, where is appears the Russian Forces are intent of demolishing the city, reducing it to ruins. Ukraine civilians and fighters are hold out in a steel plant, which has become symbolic of the resistance to tyranny. Many are wounded and surviving on meager rations.

"It also has symbolic importance for President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, whose forces more than two months into the war have yet to seal their victory by seizing the last holdout in the strategic port," The New York Times reported.

NATO Expands

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock addressed the expected membership application of Sweden and Finland.

"Mr Stoltenberg said that Sweden and Finland are NATO's closest partners and if they decide to apply for membership, it would be "historic". "Their membership in NATO would increase our shared security, demonstrate that NATO's door is open, and that aggression does not pay."

Both representatives for Finland and Sweden have indicated they plan to move forward with NATO application. With the aggression of Russia in the region the main motivation for the move. With the acceptance of the two nations, and especially Finland, the protected NATO land mass in the Baltic region will double. Russia will be bordered by three NATO nation members and each of its three ports in the Baltic Sea will be circled.

Buffalo Mass Shooting

A peaceful Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, New York was shattered by gunfire at a local supermarket in a hate fueled rage that left ten dead, and a community stunned by the horrors of white supremist gun violence.

"A racially motivated hate crime is abhorrent to the very fabric of this nation. Any act of domestic terrorism, including an act perpetrated in the name of a repugnant white nationalist ideology, is antithetical to everything we stand for in America. Hate must have no safe harbor. We must do everything in our power to end hate-fueled domestic terrorism," President Biden said in a released statement.

Peyton S. Gendron, 18, drove 200 miles from his hometown, of Conklin, New York, to a predominately African America section of Buffalo, New York, to carry out what has been called a racially motivated domestic terror attack at the Tops Supermarket.

Witnesses described the gunman, dressed in military fatigues and body armor, calmly exiting his car, carrying a long rifle, which has since been identified as an AK-47 automatic weapon, and begin his rampage in the parking lot, where he shot three, two of which later died.

He proceeded into the store and was engaged by a former Buffalo City Police officer, Aaron Salter, who worked as security for the Tops Friendly Supermarket. Salter fired one shot which struck the body armor and did not stop the killer.

"Police said Payton Gendron shot, in total, 11 Black people and two White people Saturday in a rampage at the Tops Friendly Market that the 18-year-old broadcast live before surrendering to authorities," CBSnews.com reported.

He was also living streaming the massacre on the social media channel Twitch which reportedly several stills showing a racial epithet on the weapon, several screenshots, and a number "14" which is in reference to a white supremacist slogan.

"Samantha Faught, a spokesperson for the live-streaming platform Twitch, said the gunman began filming and sharing the attack, but the company removed the stream two minutes after the violence started," reported The Washington Post.

A lengthy manifesto, uploaded to Google Drive by Grendon, explaining the "Great Replacement Theory," a right-wing conspiracy, which theorizes the diminishing white race and Western Civilization, is at risk of an extermination through the continued mixing of the races appears to be the motivation behind the massacre.

Grendon surrendered to police in the parking lot. He later pleaded not guilty and was held without bond.

Gun Violence Sharp Rise

Police Chief James White of the Detroit Police Department was invited by President Biden this week to the White House. In his remarks to the press, he indicated that when discussing the sharp rise in gun violence, Friday, May 13, 2022, "We're only one part of the judicial process.  We make the arrests; there's our courts, the prosecutor's office.  And then there's the intersection of crime with mental illness.  By the time someone commits a crime, there's a number of failed systems that has caused that to happen.  Mental health is super important.  Engaging the courts at a high level is super important."

Nova Scotia "Fake Cop" Mass Shooting Hearings Begin

Hearings begin this week in Nova Scotia, Canada as lawmakers try to piece together the events and errors that allowed a police impersonator could become responsible for the worst mass shooting in Canadian history.
