San Diego, California, October 23, 2014 - ART SAN DIEGO (ASD) Contemporary Art Show today announced its 6th annual show from November 6 – 9 at historic Balboa Park Activities Center, 2145 Park Boulevard, San Diego, CA.

ASD will feature the works of more than 50 established and up-and-coming artists and galleries from the region and around the globe. The show includes works from spotlight artists, 2014 Art Prize recipients, a LaunchPad artist, and new this year, ArtSpot International – a show within a show focused on Latin American masters and contemporary works.

ART SAN DIEGO, San Diego's only contemporary fine art show, has become one of the leading cultural events in Southern California. Since its inception in 2009, ASD has enriched the city with compelling, site-specific art projects; art talks and panel discussions; a selection of dynamic and cutting-edge film, video and new media works; and a curated selection of emerging artists.

“This year’s theme, [inter-play] has created an exciting platform for incoming artists to interact with guests and create an atmosphere that is compelling, visually appealing and will grab attention of viewers,” said Ann Berchtold, ART SAN DIEGO founder and director. “We are very excited for the new additions to this year’s show; it will really ramp up the exposure of the festival, as well as bring in guests from different areas around the world.”

ART SAN DIEGO has become one of the most successful cultural events in San Diego. Founded in 2009 as the first and only Contemporary Art Show in San Diego, ART SAN DIEGO is now an annual showcase, featuring not only San Diego’s most talented artists, but also leading artists from around the globe. This show provides the backdrop for the world’s leading contemporary artists, designers and art galleries, attracting national and international attendees.

In its first year under the Redwood Media Group umbrella, ASD will feature a new show within the show: ArtSpot International Art Fair, curated by Aldo Castillo. ArtSpot International is replicating a model introduced during Miami Art Week last year at SPECTRUM Miami. The show will present carefully selected modern, contemporary and cutting-edge galleries with a strong Latin American emphasis. Castillo, the show curator and director, is one of the most respected authorities of modern and contemporary art and has overseen the direction of more than 250 international art exhibitions.

Also, returning to this year’s show is the popular LaunchPad Program. This year’s selected artist, Emily Grenader, is a recent UCSD graduate who works with various mediums to combine individuals into “crowd portraits,” exploring human connections from many perspectives. Projects from her most recent crowd series have won the Lawdale Big Show’s Junior Prize, and Kickstarter’s “Best Art Project” award. Projected on a wall at the entrance of the show, Grenader will create an interactive crowd play piece. Entering guests will have the option to get their photo taken which will be super imposed onto an interactive screen, creating a playful entrance art piece for guests.

Spotlight artists and exhibitors for the 2014 edition include: Mark Vassallo (Tokyo, Japan), Carl Karni Bain (New York, NY) and New York-based artist, Jennifer Hannaford, represented by Adelman Fine Art (San Diego, CA). The 2014 Art Prize recipients include: Marianela de la Hoz, Bhavna Mehta, Philipp Scholz Ritterman and Joseph Huppert.
