Beltway Insider: Biden and Immigration, Title 42, King Charles, School Shooter Mom Convicted, Haley Loses; Trump, FDNY Hero

President Biden has historically been seen as soft on immigration, he embodies the words inscribed on the Statue of Liberty, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free," that attitude, however, is changing.

The President's job approval rating, according to the website fivethirtyeight.com, for the period ending February 11, 2024 decreased by 0.05% to 38.5% of those polled who approve of his effectiveness as President and those who disapprove of his effectiveness increased by 0.07% to 55.7% of those polled who disapprove of his effectiveness. A slight 3% of the population polled have no opinion. Ratings are calculated weekly.

Biden Border Deal

President Biden has moved away from a helping hand president to an iron fist on immigration, as millions of undocumented are continuing to overrun the southern border states, setting up tent cities, threatening the security of border control agents, and citizens of towns along the border.

While Biden "paused deportations and halted construction of Trump's border wall on his first day in office, Biden opted to keep in place some of his predecessor's border restrictions, including the pandemic-era Title 42 provision that allowed for quick expulsions of migrants," reported The Washington Post.

Illegal immigration is not a political finger-pointing issue, it is simply a volume issue, the sheer number of illegals, who reproduce on an average of eight to one, are making their way to the border and will sell their soul for entry. The notion of sanctuary cities does not help curb illegal immigration.

Tough immigration policies are imperative; the Border Wall, built under former president Trump, has slowed immigration in some areas, but those who traffic illegals across the border, see the wall as an obstacle and not an end.

Border control will barely touch the human trafficking problem. Like cartels, those who make upward of $10K, $20K, and $30K monthly to traffic illegals across the border will not be deterred because of the U.S. president's position, not this president, or the next or the one that follows.

An enlargement of Title 42, which was invoked during the pandemic, and was created to stop entry into the United States during times disease. The National Institute of Health links poverty to disease and while Title 42 is primarily used in highly communicable disease threats, many disease are undetected such as diabetes, Tuberculosis, and high risk behaviors that result in the spread of communicable diseases.

"According to Title 42, whenever the U.S. Director of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) determines there is a communicable disease in another country, health officials have the authority, with the approval of the President, to prohibit "the introduction of persons and property from such countries or places" for as long as health officials determine is necessary," according to the Anti-Defamation League.

King Charles III Diagnosed with Cancer

Britain's King Charles III, 75, has been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer and has begun treatment, according to statement from Buckingham Palace.

'"During the king's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," the palace said. "Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties,"' reported The Washington Post.

No additional information has been provided on the King's condition or the expectation of a full recovery. Although it is doubtful that the King will relinquish his throne, as people can live with cancer and maintain quality lives, the King certainly has the option, should his health deteriorate considerably, to surrender his title to his son, and heir to the throne, Prince William. After the public announcement, Prince Harry returned to London this week to spend time with his father.

School Shooter's Mom Convicted

Jennifer Crumbley, 45, the mother of the Oxford Michigan school shooter, Ethan Crumbly, was found guilty this week of four counts of involuntary manslaughter after six men, six women jury deliberated more than 11 hours. It was the second trial, steaming from a mass shooting, where a parent has been held accountable for the actions of the deadly actions of their child.

"Unfortunately, I think the sea change is that as we're grappling with an ocean of firearms, we are going to — and should — see more of these prosecutions brought," said Eric Rinehart, the Lake County state's attorney in Illinois who prosecuted the father of the Highland Park shooter for sponsoring the shooter's firearms card despite knowing of his mental health issues," reported The Washington Post.

The Crumbley's, Jennifer and James, bought their son a handgun as an early Christmas present, on November 30, 2021. Four days later he walked into his high school and murdered four teens and injured seven others. He was tried as an adult and was sentenced to life in prison. Road to the White House 2024 - Trump Legal Troubles Mount

Haley Suffers Major Loss in Nevada

Nevada held both a primary and caucus this week, and for the major Republican candidates, Nikki Haley, and former president Donald Trump, it was a huge gamble for both that resulted in both a big win and a humiliating loss.

Haley, who had been building momentum during the debate season as other contenders dropped out of the race, has more than an uphill battle to unseat former president Donald Trump from securing the GOP party nomination. Her dismal and shocking loss in the Nevada primary, where she lost to the option of "none of these candidates," reverberates more than simply politics, but distrust and a lack of confidence in her ability to lead. The primary which did not include the former president, also did not award delegates, a win would have gauged her temperature in the state, and the shocking loss, did Nevadans do not see Haley as a presidential contender.

Haley chose not to have her name submitted for the caucuses held on Thursday that did include delegates counting toward the total number needed to secure the Republican Party nomination. Without her presence Trump swept the caucuses.

"Trump will win most, if not all, of the state's 26 delegates. He needs to accrue 1,215 delegates to formally clinch the party's nomination and could reach that number in March," reported The Associated Press.

Recent comments by the former president, who is the party's frontrunner, proves he is ready to alienate European allies, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization, (NATO) by telling crowds that he will encourage Russian leader Vladimir Putin to do whatever he wants to any member nation of NATO.

While many see the former president as a legitimate contender, a rightful winner seeking redress for a stolen election, that mentality is not leadership. Donald Trump is not seeking to lead the nation to betterment, his decision to run is purely political which means that should he win, every democratic bill that has been signed into law will be nullified. Every aspect of the Biden-Harris presidency will be systematically dismantled, because it is purely spite and not a desire to lead the nation, to create a better America, a more competitive America, to keep jobs here, in America, to ensure that all Americans, privileged or not, have equal and fair opportunity for success.

Federal Appeals Court Reject Absolute Immunity Claim

The Washington DC circuit court has denied former President Trump's claim of presidential immunity and has given the president clear and timely deadlines to seek the Supreme Court's intervention. President Trump has until February 12, 2024, to appeal the ruling with the United States Supreme Court.

Trump's lawyers have made the argument that a former president can not be prosecuted, which has no legal precedence, moreover it allows for the possibility, in the fantasy world of exclusions from prosecution, that a former president could order the assassination of a rival, or embezzle millions, or engage in degenerate and debased acts, such as engaging in prostitution or rape, without fear of prosecution.

In a 57-page opinion, the judges spoke, "per curium," meaning in one voice, no dissenters to the opinion presented. Even the lone republican, Karen Henderson, who "has historically been sympathetic to broad presidential power. But during the oral argument she called it "paradoxical" that a president's duty to faithfully execute the laws would allow him to violate them. That characterization is reflected in the final opinion, which calls Trump's position "a striking paradox." It also suggests that some fear of future prosecution serves an important purpose: "to deter possible abuses of power and criminal behavior," reported The Washington Post.

September 11, 2001 - We Remember

FDNY 9/11 Hero Dies

New York City Firefighter Bob Beckwith died this week. He was 91. For most Beckwith was anonymous, for those who lived in and around New York City on September 11, 2001, will remember him as a man of courage, a New York City Firefighter, one of the hundreds of New York City firemen who, despite the impossibility of their task, rushed into the Twin Towers.

Beckwith stood with the President George Bush, on what remained of the World Trade Center, a city block of debris, an unfathomable and profound pile of concrete, glass, twisted steel, metal entombing those who could not escape the catastrophic terror.

President Bush released this statement, "Laura and I are saddened by the passing of Bob Beckwith. On September 11, 2001, Bob was happily retired after more than 30 years of service with the New York City Fire Department. When the terrorists attacked, Bob suited back up and, like so many brave first responders, raced toward the danger to save and search for others," the former president said. "His courage represented the defiant, resilient spirit of New Yorkers and Americans after 9/11," Foxnews.com reported.

On September 11, 2001, 2,977 people lost their lives, of those 343 were New York firefighters died when the Twin Towers collapse.
