Money News: DOW Rebounds; London, Canada Follow; Mexico, India, Hong Kong Markets Down

The DOW Jones Industrial Average, gave chase to the bear market, regained nearly all the previous week losses surging with triple digit gains to, in one week, regain the standing of the previous week and year profits.

The DOW performed steadily throughout the week and rallied strong to post high triple digit gains closing up at 17,748.31 (+168.62/+0.94%). Opening at 17,961.13, the DOW held a daily range of 17,961.13-to-18,197.29.

Gainers include Hanwha Q Cells Co Ltd (+0.41/+32.28%) with a closing price of $1.68 per share, Prothene Corp PLC (+9.43/+32.26%) with a closing price of $38.66 per share, Ctrip.com International Ltd (+11.44/+24.79%) with a closing price of $57.58, and Cnova NV (+0.81/+13.87%) with a closing price of $6.65.

Losers for the week include Halozyme Therapeutics Inc closing down at $14.63 per share down (-1.43/-8.90%), Zafgen Inc closing down at $46.94 with a loss of (-4.40/-8.57%), Auspex Pharmaceuticals Inc also closed down at $79.99 for a loss of (-6.73/-7.76%) and Macrogenics Inc closing down at $36.25 per share for a loss of (-2.92/-7.45%)

Active for the week included American Airlines Group Inc moved 137.77M shares in solid trading to close up at $55.76 per share for a gain of (+1.03%), Microsoft Corp in strong trading moved 71.90M shares, closing up at $42.88 per share for a gain of (+1.41%), Apple Inc  also on strong trading moved 68.70M shares closing down at $125.90 per share with a loss of (-1.25%) and Intel Corp in medium trading moved 64.78M shares closing up at $31.31 per share with a gain of (+1.85%).

The NASDAQ closed down at 5,026.42 for a gain of (+34.04/+0.68%).

The S&P 500 also closed up at 2,108.10 for a gain of (+18.83/+0.90%).

World Markets

The ten most watched world markets experienced a 70/30 split as the North American Markets, including the DOW Jones Industrial, S&P500, NASDAQ, Canada's S&P TSX Composite, the European Markets London's FTSE 100,  the CAC 40 of France, Germany's DAX, and the Asian Markets including the Shanghai Composite and Japan's Nikkei 225, all closed up. Mexico's IPC, Hong Kong Hang Seng and SENEX of India closed down.

Nikkei 225

The Japanese Nikkei 225, boosting solid gains and a strong Yen, rallied steadily throughout the week to close trading up, with strong double digit gains, at 19,560.22 for an increase of (+83.66/+0.43%). 

Gainers for the week include Yahoo Japan Corp (+29.00/+6.04%), Toshiba Corp (+22.00/+4.71%), J Front Retailing Co Ltd (+62.00/+3.46%), Fujikura Ltd (+17.00/+3.23%).

Losers include Mitsubishi Material Corp (-10.00/-2.45%), TDK Group (-220.00/-2.40%), Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp (-6.80/-2.14%) and Asahi Kasei Corp (-26.50/-2.11%).

Active on the Nikkei include Mizuho Financial Group Inc, in 14 straight weeks of strong trading, moved 117.85M shares, enough for a rally, and closed up at ¥224.60 for a gain of (+1.22%), Toshiba Corp also in light trading moved 52.03M shares to close up at ¥506.70 for a gain of (+4.71%), Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc in medium trading moved 48.84M shares to close up at ¥789.10 for a gain of (+0.52%).

FTSE 100

London Markets, in track with North American Markets was rallied and finished the trading week up with strong double digit gains to end the week 7022.51 with a gain of (+60.19/+0.86%).

Gainers in the FTSE 100 include CRH PLC (+96.00/+5.48%), Anglo American PLC (+54.50/+5.21%), Fresnillo PLC (+27.00/+3.98%), Glencore PLC (+11.25/+3.94%).

Losers include Persimmon PLC (-95.00/-5.34%), Imperial Tobacco Group PLC (-47.00/-1.49%), Kingfisher PLC (-4.20/-1.12%) and Next PLC (-68.75/-0.94%).

Active on the FTSE 100 included Lloyds Banking Group PLC moving 183.16M shares in strong trading, closed up at €80.55 for a gain of (+1.32%), Vodafone Group PLC, in strong trading moved 99.29M shares to close up at €229.10 per share for a gain of (+1.42%), BP PLC, in strong trading moved 72.95M shares to close up at €448.16 per share for gain of (+1.65%)and Barclays PLC also in light trading moved 34.50M shares to close up at €254.36 for a gain of (+0.62).

Hang Seng Index

The Hang Sang Index, the single holdout in an Asian Market upswing, in strong trading closed down with high double digit losses.

The Hang Seng closed down at 24,375.24 with double digit loses of (-93.65/-0.38%).

Gainers on the Hang Seng Index include Ping An Insurance Group (Hong Kong) (+3.95/+4.46%), Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd (Hong Kong) (+0.50/+2.93%), Sands China Ltd (Hong Kong) (+0.85/+2.72%), Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd (Hong Kong) (+0.60/+1.69%).

Active trading on the Heng Seng Hong Kong Index includes Bank of China Ltd , in intense trading, 275.59M shares to close up HK$4.47 (+0.45%), China Construction Bank Corp also in intense trading moved 162.79M shares remained constant at HDK$6.47 (+0.00%), Industrial and Commercial Bank of China in strong trading moved 143.35M shares to close down at HK$5.68.

Losers for the week include Li & Fung Ltd Ltd (Hong Kong) (-0.61/-7.60), China Resources Power Holdings Co Ltd (-0.62/-3.15%), Sino Land Co Ltd (-0.26/-2.21%), Ten Cent Holdings Ltd (-2.70/-1.86%).
