September 26, 2013 - Submarine Deluxe announced today the acquisition of theatrical rights in the USA to CASTING BY - a film by Tom Donahue. The deal was negotiated by Dan Braun & David Koh of Submarine Deluxe along with CreativeChaos vmg.

Submarine Deluxe will release the film in theaters in November starting in NY and LA with an expansion to cities around the country and will also mount an Oscar Campaign for Best Documentary Category with the Producers & Filmmakers. CASTING BY was Produced by Our8s Productions, CreativeChaos vmg and Genmaicha in association with Tashtego Films.

Directed by Tom Donahue. Produced by Kate Lacey, Tom Donahue, Joanna Colbert, and Ilan Arboleda. Executive Produced by Steve Edwards, Edward Durkin and John Balis. Co-Executive Produced by Margaret Whitton. Edited by Jill Schweitzer. Director of Photography Peter Bolte. With Original Music by Leigh Roberts.

CASTING BY is a fast paced journey through the last half century of Hollywood history from a new perspective spotlighting filmmaking's unsung hero - the casting director.

The documentary focuses on casting pioneers like Marion Dougherty and Lynn Stalmaster who were iconoclasts whose exquisite taste and gut instincts ultimately helped change the old studio system and usher in New Hollywood through landmark movies like Midnight Cowboy, The Graduate, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Bonnie and Clyde.

They broke away from traditional typecasting and brought new kinds of leading men and women to the screen, among them Dustin Hoffman, Bette Midler, Robert Duvall, and Gene Hackman. The film includes extensive archival material and exclusive interviews with Glenn Close, Jeff Bridges, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jon Voight, John Lithgow, John Travolta, Martin Scorsese, among many others.

Tom Donahue stated, "I'm very excited to be working with Submarine Deluxe and to have the opportunity to introduce the groundbreaking contributions of legendary casting director Marion Dougherty to a theater going audience. The more people who see it, the more we can preserve her rightful place in film history."

"We love this movie and believe not only that it is a true crowd pleaser but that it is a strong contender for Academy Award recognition. We look forward to partnering with the filmmakers and producers on the Theatrical launch and Academy campaign," said Dan Braun & David Koh of Submarine Deluxe.
