Oscar®-Winning Producer Greg Shapiro Joins AGC Studios As Head Of Film

Academy Award winning feature film producer Greg Shapiro has joined recently launched content creation and global licensing operation AGC Studios as Head of Film, it was announced today by AGC’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Ford. 

Shapiro will oversee all feature film development and production activity for the fast-growing new Los Angeles and London based studio.

AGC Studios was announced in February of this year as a major new film, scripted television, unscripted television, digital and music production and global licensing platform with significant backing from three key strategic investors: Latin American private asset management firm MediaNet Partners; Silicon Valley entrepreneur and CEO Greg Clark; and Image Nation Abu Dhabi, one of the leading media and entertainment companies in the Arabic-speaking world.

Shapiro will also be a stakeholder in AGC Studios alongside senior executives Ford and Chief Operating Officer Miguel Palos.

Since September 2016 Shapiro has served as President of Film Production at IM Global, the independent film and television company founded by Ford in 2007, where Shapiro produced or served as executive producer on several major feature projects currently in production or post production, including Reed Morano's international espionage thriller The Rhythm Section, from James Bond producers Eon Productions starring Blake Lively and Jude Law.

Steven Knight's noir thriller Serenity, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jason Clarke, Diane Lane and Djimon Hounsou; Wayne Roberts' comedy drama Richard Says Goodbye starring Johnny Depp, Danny Huston, and Rosemary De Witt; and Drake Doremus' sci-fi romance Zoe, starring Léa Seydoux, Ewan McGregor, Theo James and Cristina Aguilera.

Shapiro was a Best Picture Academy Award® winner for Kathryn Bigelow's 2008 drama The Hurt  Locker, which won a total of six Oscars®. He was also an executive producer on Bigelow’s Zero  Dark Thirty in 2012, which received five Academy Award® nominations and on Bigelow's critically acclaimed 2017 release Detroit

Shapiro's other producing credits include Robert Redford’s The Conspirator starring James McAvoy and Robin Wright; The Rum Diary, directed by Bruce Robinson and starring Johnny Depp; The Rules of Attraction directed by Roger Avary; the popular Harold & Kumar comedy franchise; James Gray’s The Immigrant starring Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner and Epix television comedy series Graves, starring Nick Nolte.

The Shape of Water Takes Best Picture, Best Director

AGC Studios will have three principal operating subsidiaries covering production, distribution and finance. AGC Productions will develop and produce a diverse multicultural slate of mainstream English language feature film and TV projects. Aside from traditional Hollywood output, dedicated sub-divisions within AGC Productions will focus on generating material for Latino and Urban audiences as well as music-driven IP.

The television output will include scripted series, unscripted and reality projects, factual content and content specifically created for digital platforms. AGC International will operate a substantial international film and television licensing and distribution platform, building on Ford and his management team’s lengthy track record at the forefront of licensing content to major studios, independent studios, broadcasters and streaming plat-forms globally.

Finally, AGC Capital will provide development, production and post-production financing to both AGC Productions’ output as well as to select third-party produced film and TV productions via a portfolio of equity, senior and mezzanine debt, soft money and bridge-capital financial products.
