Nuart Fest to Open October 21 with Advance Screening of Sam Mendes’ EMPIRE OF LIGHT

The inaugural Nuart Fest has been set for October 21 – 30, 2022, to celebrate the reopening of the Nuart Theatre after its renovation.  The 1930, single-screen, historic Nuart is the very first theatre in the Landmark Theatres chain.

The 10-day long festival is an eclectic mix of sneak previews and special screenings of films that made midnight movie history at the Nuart.  The celebratory week is in the tradition of theater anniversary weeks that were popular in the 1920s and 30s and featured special screenings, guests, and giveaways.

REAL LIFE (1979) – SPECIAL SCREENING Shown in 35mm

Screenwriting partners Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski (Dolemite Is My Name, Ed Wood, The People Vs Larry Flynt) have been fans of the Nuart Theatre since their USC film student days in the early 1980s, when they spent an inordinate amount of time soaking up all that the arthouse cinema had to offer. They remember pouring over the calendars and feeling like the Nuart was "telling them that these were films that were essential to see." Now, all these years later, Scott and Larry choose a film that they found inspirational – Albert Brooks' Real Life.  We double the nostalgia quotient with a special screening of a film that hasn't been seen at the Nuart since 1982, "Myron," Scott's student film entry in the Teen Super 8 Film Festival.

Post screening Q&A with Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski.
