Playbill Is Now Streaming "Remember The Ribbon: A Tribute To World Aids Day"

To commemorate World AIDS Day, Playbill presents its third-annual Remember the Ribbon: A Tribute to World AIDS Day concert event, sponsored by Gilead Sciences, Hotel Edison and Sony Hall, is now airing on Playbill.com from December 1-3, 2022.

Benefiting the LGBTQ advocacy organization, GLAAD, the event was filmed in front of a live audience on November 7, 2022 at Sony Hall in NYC.


NYC Theatre: Broadway is Back and Chicago is Superb

The evening celebrates, pays tribute to, and remembers all those affected by HIV and AIDS, featuring appearances from Academy Award-winner ARIANA DEBOSE (Summer: The Donna Summer Musical), GLAAD Excellence in Media Award Honoree JUDITH LIGHT (Thérèse Raquin), NIAD Director DR. ANTHONY FAUCI, a special audience moment with the legendary Tony-Award Winning CHITA RIVERA, and more.

Hosted by KARL J. SCHMID (Entertainment Correspondent, ABC & host/co-founder (+Life Media), participants include Tony Award-nominee actress CAROLEE CARMELLO (1776), ANDRÉ JORDAN (Diana the Musical), DARIUS ANTHONY HARPER (Kinky Boots 1st. National Tour), COLIN CUNLIFFE (Paradise Square), and ANTHONY WAYNE (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical), with guest speakers ALEX BIRSH (VP & COO, Playbill), ANDREA PORZIO (Senior Director, HIV Franchise, Gilead Sciences), SARAH KATE ELLIS (President & CEO, GLAAD), TONY MORRISON (Senior Director of Communications, GLAAD & host, Plus Life Media's "Truth Be Told"), and MARIA DI DIA, as well as special guests QUENTIN BELL (Executive Director, The Knights & Orchids Society), TATIANA WILLIAMS (Executive Director, Transinclusive Group), and JASMINE DAVIS (CrescentCare) who share their incredible work in HIV awareness, education and care. Special performances are also presented by TONEWALL, and BROADWAY SINGS.

During the event, the first-ever Ribbon Award was also awarded as a surprise to host KARL SCHMID. Presented by DR. ANTHONY FAUCI, the award "designates the honoree as a leader in research, activism, and/or outreach, honors their commitment in stopping the stigma associated with HIV and AIDS, and their commitment in helping find a cure for HIV and AIDS". Virtual congratulations were shared with Karl by ALAN CUMMING (Broadway TV actor), GREG LOUGANIS (Actor, Author, Motivational Speaker & Iconic Olympian), BRUCE RICHMAN (Founding Executive Director of Prevention Access "U=U" Campaign), MARC MALKIN (Senior Culture & Events Editor, Variety), ELLEN LEYVA (Co-anchor, ABC7 Los Angeles), and Schmid's parents, HELMUT & JULIA SCHMID. 

Written by BRYAN CAMPIONE, the event was co-directed by CAMPIONE and LEONARD RODINO, with music by the Broadway Sings Band (COREY MACH [producer], JOSHUA STEPHEN KARTES [music director / keys], COLIN DEAN [bass], NICK ANTON [guitar], ZACHARY ELDRIDGE [drums]).  SYDNEY STEELE acted as Stage Manager, with technical production by SONY HALL, event filming by MICHAEL MORITZ PRODUCTIONS and additional videography by DAN SHEIN. The virtual event has additional video editing/production by ROBERTO ARAUJO, and the digital Playbill program was created by RODINO and DEAN GREER.
