Evan Rachel Wood, Josh Gad, Anthony Carrigan to Star in Alex Winter's "The Adults"

Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG nominated actress Evan Rachel Wood, Tony nominee Josh Gad, and Emmy and SAG nominee Anthony Carrigan, will star in Alex Winter's (Zappa), The Adults as a brother/sister duo investigating long-held family secrets.

The film is being produced by Winter, Scott Kroopf of Many Rivers Productions (Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Limitless), and Russell Hollander (Intrusion, Valentine's Day), Executive Produced by Connie Tavel (Confess, Fletch, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey) with screenplay by novelist Michael M.B. Galvin (Fat Kid Rules the World, Freaks Talk About Sex). CAA Media Finance, which is arranging financing for the film, will represent the domestic sale, while Rocket Science will launch international sales at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin.


AFI Fest 2023 Dates Announced

The Adults is a feature film about a sister and brother, Megan, and Nathan (Wood and Gad), who are barely hanging on in present-day America, like all of us. Their lives are completely upended when they discover a dead body, long buried in their parent's basement, sending them down a rabbit hole of crime and murder.

Winter said: "I'm thrilled to be working with Evan, Josh and Anthony on this darkly comic crime drama, which takes a sly look at the challenges we all face today, trying to survive in the modern world."

Wood most recently starred in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story and HBO's "Westworld," the latter of which earned her a Critic's Choice Award. She has also received three Emmy and three Golden Globe nominations recognizing her performances in "Westworld," "Mildred Pierce," and Thirteen. Wood is next set to star in an adaptation of World War II-era book "All That I Am," alongside Eliza Scanlen, Rufus Sewell and Vanessa Redgrave.

Gad is best known for his voice work as Olaf in Disney's Frozen and as LeFou in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. He also helped launch "The Book of Mormon" as part of the original Broadway cast, winning a Grammy for his performance. Gad has also starred in Marshall, A Dog's Purpose, Murder on the Orient Express and The Wedding Ringer.

Carrigan is a two-time Emmy Award-nominated actor who is currently nominated for two 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards for "Male Actor in a Comedy Series" as well as "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble" for his performance as 'NoHo Hank' in HBO's "Barry." Carrigan will return to star in the 4th season of the Emmy-winning series alongside Bill Hader, Henry Winkler, Sarah Goldberg and Stephen Root. In film, Carrigan recently starred in Paul Weitz's Fatherhood with Kevin Hart, which was produced by Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions and released by Netflix. Additionally, he starred with Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Winter shot to fame in the 1980s as Bill in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, also starring in the cult classic The Lost Boys, before finding acclaim as a documentary filmmaker with thought-provoking projects such as Epix's Deep Web, Magnolia Picture's Zappa, Showbiz Kids for HBO and the narrative feature Fever which screened in the Directors Fortnight at Cannes. Winter is set to act alongside Wood, Gad and Carrigan in The Adults.
