Against The Ice, a Netflix Original film, brings to the screen the true story of Danish explorers Ejnar Mikkelsen and Iver Iversen, who survive the harsh conditions of the Artic while securing the evidence proving Greenland is one island.

The film begins with a pan of deeply frozen tundra, and then the whoosh as the dogsled glides across the ice, with a team of huskies pulling two men. Suddenly, towering from behind an iceberg, a ship's mast peaks like beacon of hope across the bitter cold night.

Butter Review – Awesome, Honest, Heartbreaking, A Must See!

From inside the ship, the Alabama, the crew hears the yells of the Captain, Ejnar Mikkelsen, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and his first mate, Jorgensen, played by Gisli Gardarsson. In minutes we understand the dangers of the expedition, as the men perform an emergency surgery to remove the first mates frostbitten toes.

Frozen in the sea the men on the Alabama, are waiting for the winter to pass so the ship will loose from the ice and they can return to Denmark. As Christmas arrives, Mikkelsen announces he is heading out again to find the evidence left from the lost Danish explorers proving Greenland land size and that he needs a volunteer to accompany him.

As each of the men saw the effects of frostbite and understand the expedition is a suicide mission, no one volunteers. The next day, the mechanic, Iver Iversen, played by Joe Cole, who had been scheduled to work on the R.S.S. Titanic, approached the captain and explained he would like to be considered for the journey.
