World News: Israel Ignores International Law Continues West Bank Annexation

The process of annexation of the West Bank by Israel confirms the omnipotence of the Jewish state in the region and the culpable inertia of the international community with regard to the abandoned Palestinian people without resources.

Although illegal and contrary to international law, Israel continues its annexation process in the West Bank while condemnations from various nations multiply, reminding the Jewish state of its obligations with regard to its dominant position in the region.

But partly supported by its public opinion and the United States, Israel ignores all forms of disapproval of its various violations of the law. And for good reason, the Jewish state, in the person of its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, knows more than anyone that international indignation will stop at simple protests that some will consider purely formal. Because behind this annexation process lies another reality, much crueler for the Palestinian people: that of an alternative, even spasmodic support for its destiny in the face of the Israeli ogre.

Indifference

Of course, many will object that the peace agreements (Camp David I and II; Oslo) have always obtained the support of the West and the Europeans, but it is clear that the human drama that has been played out, and is being played out, in Gaza and the West Bank to this day, has only unleashed a timid movement of indignation that will not call for any reaction other than those already noted.

Why then so much indifference towards a people who, like any other, deserve a recognized state and sovereignty? Is there a form of human hierarchy that allows some peoples to have more than others? The question remains unanswered, but it may be answered in the question itself. Objectively, and this is in no way their fault or responsibility, but only their reality, the Palestinian people do not represent any strategic, political or geopolitical interest in the eyes of the international community, while Israel, always in the eyes of this same community, proves to be at the center of all historical, diplomatic and geopolitical attention.

Threatened by Iran, at odds with the United States, itself a supporter of Israel, surrounded by Arab nations that are nevertheless unwilling, apart from Syria, which is now very weakened, to wage war against the Jewish state, Israel knows that it is free of all obligations or constraints vis-à-vis the Palestinians, who are themselves tacitly rejected by Arab nations anxious to preserve, as far as possible,  their respective civil peace.

Impunity

This march towards the annexation of the West Bank is therefore being carried out quietly, referring, among other things, to the UN and its humanist considerations to its own contradictions. It is therefore very likely, if not certain, that Israel will continue its colonization enterprise with impunity in order to establish new settlements and present the international community with a fait accompli on the grounds of its security.

It will then be convenient for international institutions and the eponymous community to deplore the situation without forcing the Israeli aggressor to return the plundered land, ratifying the situation as now acquired to the detriment of Palestinians who are always pushed further away. The Palestinians, the new martyred people of the 21st century, find themselves hostages, by themselves, to the obsession with security of the Jewish state and the cowardice of the international community.

Writing reviews to send out is actually quite difficult for me.  The truth is, I’m a theatre snob, and I’m pretty hard to please.  Without creative geniuses such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Leonard Bernstein, or even Stephen Sondheim, it’s hard for me to give my endorsement.  Not this time.  You will love ‘Honeymoon In Vegas’.
