Five Dead as Shooter Targets Co-Workers at The Molson Coors Brewing Plant

Five co-workers are dead after a fellow employee armed with an automatic weapon went on a shooting rampage at the Molson Coors brewing facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, yesterday. The sprawling campus remained on lock-down for hours.

Limited information is available currently regarding the five who were killed or the shooter, who has been reported as an active employee in uniform, even to local media as investigators work to process and maintain the integrity of the scene.

After hearing of the tragic events Molson Coors CEO Gavin Hattersley, in Houston for the annual sales and distributor conference, released the following statement:

Earlier today we received news of an active shooter on our Milwaukee Brewery Campus. The police have since confirmed the shooter, who was an active brewery employee, is now deceased. There is no longer an active threat and our employees are in the process of being released to go home to their families.

Unfortunately, I am devastated to share that we lost five other members of our family in this tragic incident. The police are working to notify their relatives, so I am unable to provide more information at this time.

There are no words to express the deep sadness many of us are feeling right now. The most important thing is that we support and care for each other. We ask that everyone be respectful of how our colleagues in Milwaukee are feeling during this incredibly difficult time and do what you can to be supportive.

Please hold your family member tight tonight and keep the families of our fallen teammates in your thoughts.  https://twitter.com/MolsonCoors

Although information is limited, police indicate they received numerous calls regarding an "active shooter" at the Molson Coors brewing plant, located in the 4000 block of W. State Street at around 2:00PM local time.

Confirming a "critical situation" which translates to active shooter, full tactile response needed, was unfolding within minutes the area had been surrounded by numerous agencies.

Local Milwaukee police and SWAT arrived first on the scene running toward the expansive campus where more than 1000 employees were on site at the time of the shooting. Employees were sending texts to loved ones alerting them of the situation who relayed the information to authorities.

The facility is designed as a typical bottling plant, with separate rooms for each step in the process. The large vats which hold the beverage are in a room, separate from the factory line where bottles are washed, and sterilized before an inspection process of the empty bottle, and a large warehouse to store the packaged beverages before distribution. Each of these rooms contained meeting rooms, storage and other micro-offices, as well as on site management offices.

The shooter, still in uniform, targeted five other employees. It has not been released where the shootings occurred. The gunman died on scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a company-wide email, employees were notified the plant will remain closed for the remainder of the week with further information to follow.

The Molson Coors brewing headquarters is a landmark in the city of nearly 600,000 residents.
