The work unfolds at its own pace revealing shifting discoveries and offer a familiarity that connects us.

Her exploration of place extends to her landscapes where she mines the stories of its inhabitants and their connection to and impression upon it. And, likewise, she seeks to demonstrate the land's impression upon us. "Painting 'Landscape' enables me to feel a sense of connection to the natural environment, a need which is intrinsic to human nature. I enjoy the play of light and shade, the restorative nature of water, the natural linear rhythms created by the structure of the trees, the power of the expressive use of colour and the timeless quiet of rock formations."

Nielsen holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Painting from the National Art School graduating in 2005.
She has had group and solo exhibitions across Sydney.

New Artist Feature
Erika Lee Sears
On view August 2021
A self-taught artist from Portland, OR, Erika has devoted every day of her life to art and has carved a place for it in her daily routine. It's in her everyday that we see our everyday. Her still-lifes reflect moments of joy, peace, simplicity, and even humor in an otherwise chaotic world.
Paris Arts: Musee d’Orsay Review – A Magnificent, Mesmerizing, Collection
Moments that Erika is deliberately taking the time to savor and commemorate. Moments that may otherwise be overlooked and lost. Her whimsical broad brushstrokes accentuate the ephemerality of time and exhibit a mastery of what's essential to the story. Each vignette is a reminder to stop and smell the roses… every day.
Maybaum Gallery is open by appointment only.
