The New Year's Eve celebration in New Orleans turned deadly when an ISIS loyalist drove his pick-up truck into a crowd of revelers on Bourbon Street, killing 15 and injuring dozens, in what officials are calling an act of terrorism.

Federal authorities believe the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a former Army veteran from Texas, did not act alone and was intent on injuring as many as possible in the mass casualty event. His vehicle was filled with IED's an ISIS flag, and weapons. He engaged with police and was neutralized.

Suspect Held in United HealthCare CEO Murder

"The man drove the truck, which he had rented, according to officials, at a high speed into crowds around 3:15 a.m. before crashing and then opening fire, exchanging fire with three police officers, said Anne Kirkpatrick, the New Orleans Police superintendent. Two officers were injured in the gunfight, but will be OK, she added," reported The New York Times.

The suspect, a lifelong resident of Texas, had recently converted to Islam. After a ten-year stint in the military, the suspect returned to the Beaumont area. The vehicle, a Ford pickup, was rented to the suspect through an app. He had excessive debt, and his home was nearing foreclosure.

According to media sources, he had two minor legal issues, neither of which had anything to do with weapons, threats, aggression, anger or other violent or leftists leaning behaviors.  Over the past month, he appeared to be racialized, and his behavior and appearance reflected dangerous changes and allegiance to radical groups.

Many of the injured were in the Big Easy to attend annual The Sugar Bowl, between Georgia and Notre Dame, held on New Year's Day, which has been postponed for 24 hours. "The Sugar Bowl, a New Orleans tradition and the last of four College Football Playoff quarterfinal games, has been postponed until Thursday night, Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley announced during a news conference Wednesday afternoon," reported The Washington Post.

New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno released this statement, "This is a tragic day in the City of New Orleans. I want to send my deepest sympathies to the victims and families of those lost and injured in this horrible attack. I want to especially thank the brave NOPD officers who helped stop this suspect and I hope for the swift recovery of the injured officers. As a leader in our community, I pledge to continue to work relentlessly with NOPD, LA State Police, and all our public safety agencies to enhance security in and around the French Quarter to protect locals and visitors alike. New Orleans is strong, and no amount of terror can change who we are."

FBI Officials have stated this is not an isolated attacked and have reviewed video of four other suspects, three men and a woman, placing explosives around New Orleans. The FBI is currently searching for the individuals.

In a separate New Year's day incident, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The explosion killed one and injured seven others. Although under investigation as a act of terror, the Las Vegas explosion it is not believed to be related to the New Orleans ISIS mass casualty incident.
