Morrison Hotel Gallery Rides a New Wave

Morrison Hotel Gallery is expanding their storied archive of rock n' roll imagery into a new era of fine art photography presenting a carefully curated collection of breathtaking oceanic imagery inspired by the Emmy winning documentary 100 Foot Wave.

On Saturday, January 13th, Morrison Hotel Gallery will mark this exciting new moment in its history with the grand opening of The New Wave, a carefully curated collection of breathtaking oceanic imagery from around the world inspired by and in association with HBO's PGA and Emmy®-winning documentary series 100 Foot Wave, produced by Amplify Pictures, Library Films, and Topic Studios.

100 Foot Wave Review – Awesome, A Cinematic Masterpiece

"For years, Morrison Hotel Gallery has been recognized for presenting iconic imagery capturing the essence of rock 'n roll," said Adam Block, CEO, Morrison Hotel Gallery. "In 2024, we embrace the ethos of rock n roll – its energy, its expressiveness – and celebrate it in the power and poetry of the sea, surfers and the rockstar photographers who bring their unique talents to making this magnificent art."

"100 Foot Wave is so excited to partner with Morrison Hotel Gallery on this incredible collection," added executive producer and Amplify Pictures CEO Joe Lewis. "If the essence of big wave surfing and rock and roll itself is artists challenging themselves to go beyond their limits and push their mediums to new heights, there isn't a better home for them to come together. We can't wait to see these waves on display in the natural, larger-than-life form in which they're meant to be seen."

This one night only exhibition will feature numerous large-scale photographs from a select group of international photographers that highlight the beauty and extreme conditions of big wave surfing as never seen before. The party will be held from 6 - 9 pm on the evening of January 13th at an extravagant event space located at 5801 Washington Blvd in Culver City. The New Wave Collection was thoughtfully curated by Morrison Hotel Gallery's creative director Timothy White and showcases previously unreleased photographs by Tim McKenna, Fred Pompermayer, Helio Antonio, Laurent Masurel, Erik Aeder, and others.

The evening is presented in association with Amplify Pictures, Library Films, and Topic Studios in celebration of 100 Foot Wave being nominated for six Emmys® (the most nominations for a documentary series this year). Morrison Hotel Gallery has created this collection to reflect the creativity and risks taken by the photographers and athletes who are true rock stars, while capturing the beauty, the power, and the rhythm of the ocean and to honor them and their work in this groundbreaking collection.

Following the event, The New Wave Collection will remain on display at Morrison Hotel Gallery, with works available for purchase at the event as well as the online exhibition via morrisonhotelgallery.com

The HBO Original docuseries '100 Foot Wave' is directed and executive produced by award-winning filmmaker Chris Smith, and executive produced by Emmy®, Golden Globe®, and Tony® winner Joe Lewis. Ryan Heller, Michael Bloom and Maria Zuckerman also serve as executive producers for Topic Studios.
