MrWatchMaster Meets…Benjamin Adams

Next we meet Benjamin Adams, founder of British brand, Benjamin James. Rooted in England, the brand is a reflection of both his lifelong passion for watches, the timeless beauty of his surroundings, and personal memories.

Inspired by the scenic countryside, where our founder grew up, the brand was born from an obsession with proportion, detail, and the artistry of watch design.

MWM: What is the philosophy behind the brand?

BA: At Benjamin James, our philosophy is simple: to create timeless watches with a focus on classic proportions, refined details, and emotional connection. We aim to offer designs that aren't driven by trends or hype, but by a lasting appreciation for style and craftsmanship.

MWM: Tell us something we don't know about Benjamin James watches?

BA: Our designs are the result of countless hours spent refining the smallest details – often tweaking case dimensions and dial details by tiny margins until it feels just right. It's a design-first approach where visual balance and proportion lead.

MWM: What are your inspirations for your designs?

BA: My inspiration comes from a mix of classic vintage watches, personal memories, and the natural beauty of the English countryside where I grew up. The decision to debut with a rectangular design, for example, was heavily influenced by my grandfather's taste in watches – something that left a lasting impression on me from a young age.

MWM: What are your guiding principles when designing a new watch?

MrWatchMaster Meets…Alexandre Labails

BA: When designing a new watch, the goal is always to create something that feels fresh and distinctive, while still rooted in timeless style. Not different just for the sake of it, and never reliant on gimmicks. Every design decision is made with purpose, focusing on subtle character and lasting authenticity, to craft watches that feel both instantly familiar and genuinely special to wear.

MWM: What do you like best about the Watch business?

BA: The community. Watches have a unique way of connecting people across backgrounds and generations. I love seeing how much passion people bring to this hobby, and how a single watch can spark a conversation or hold deep personal meaning.

MWM: What don't you like about the Watch business?

BA: The increasing focus on resale value over genuine love for design and craftsmanship. At its best, watches are about emotion, personal taste, and artistry – not just status or investment.
