London: Dame Vivienne Westwood Protests Extradition of Julian Assange (7.21.20)

Dame Vivienne Westwood, re-entering public life for the first time after 16 weeks of COVID-19 lockdown, will be harnessed into a giant birdcage and suspended 10 feet in the air in front of The Old Bailey Criminal Court, London.

In protest over the illegal U.S. extradition of Julian Assange for telling the truth about American war crimes, Westwood, dressed in a yellow trouser suit, will enact the metaphor of 'The Canary In Coal Mine', which is indicative of Assange being sacrificed for identifying 'poison' in the system.

Expected to draw a sizable crowd, the protest begins at 8:15am Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

The banner "I AM JULIAN ASSANGE' will be in front of the cage.

Assange's U.S. extradition trial, due to recommence on the Monday, 7th September 2020 will be at The Old Bailey. The Westminster Magistrates have moved to The Old Bailey due to COVID-19 backlog and space issues.

According to Dame Vivienne Westwood: "This is the trial of Julian Assange's life. So far, in this case, the US prosecutors have gamed the British legal system and corrupted the law," she says.

"The abuse of legal process is already so severe that if Julian were on trial for murder or drug dealing. the case would have already been thrown out of court", she says.

"In September the trial will continue at the Old Bailey, the bastion of English Law, Justice and fair play.

"I am the Canary in the coal mine, sounding the alarm on what is at stake here. This cage also represents the space Julian will inhabit if he is extradited to the US.

Westwood says: "For the rest of his life he will become a symbol of what happens to you if you dare to expose the truth".

"This is a full-frontal attack on the central pillar of our democracy concerning the ability for journalists to hold the powerful to account through the media".

"We are lost without it! The WORLD is watching us!"

Westwood's activist son, Joe Corré, is behind the protest. Corré, who founded Agent Provocateur, famously turned down an MBE in 2007, in protest against the illegal war in Iraq that Tony Blair took Britain into.

Joe Corré says: "Julian Assange is being persecuted for speaking the truth".
