Walt Disney Company Announces 2020 Slate

The Walt Disney Company announced its slate for the upcoming year highlighting its dominance at the box office with titles from all the usual partners and the rebranded 20th Century Films and SearchLight Pictures.

The Walt Disney Company’s $70 billion dollar acquisition of FOX Studios, in March of 2019, saw the initial release of more than 4,000 employees, including key high salaried players as the mouse house reduced redundancies, went into streamline management mode and, trimmed the employee base slashing overhead and reducing the cost of the acquisition, almost immediately as expected fringe entities were sold off, by nearly $20 billion dollars within two months.

RAYA and The Last Dragon

With seven of Disney branded films, in 2019, reaching the billion dollar mark the expectation with two additional title producing studios, are of course to eclipse the previous global box office while still producing entertaining films that the audience will welcome.

Jungle Cruise

The 2020 Slate offers it share of MARVEL, PIXAR, Walt Disney Animation, as well as franchise titles from the former FOX Studios.

The first release on the DISNEY slate, UNDERWATER, which retained the 20th Century FOX brand, has premiered with Kristen Stewart, is a suspense filled disaster film as an experienced team of scientists and techs survive the initial destruction of their rig by an unknown species under the sea creature.

The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild, with Harrison Ford, adapted from the literary classic of the same name, the title is also the last of the Twentieth Century Fox films. The film vividly brings to the screen the story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Canadian Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890. The film will not only bring a much-loved classic to the screen it will also share with the phenomenal visuals as it utilized photo-realistic and emotionally authentic characters. The Call of the Wild is expected to be the ride of a lifetime. The Call of the Wild opens February 21, 2020. 

ONWARD

March will see the release of DISNEY PIXAR’s ONWARD, an animation suburban fantasy that pairs two elf brothers, voiced by Tom Holland and Christ Pratt, who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is a little magic left in the world. ONWARD opens March 6, 2020.

MULAN

DISNEY will also release MULAN, a live action film which captures the epic tale of the legendary warrior “Mulan.” With an international cast of talent, the story unfolds as a young woman risks everything our of love for her family and her country to become of the greatest warriors China has ever known. MULAN opens March 27, 2020.

The New Mutants

The New Mutants, from Twentieth Century Films, in association with Marvel Entertainment, brings to the screen a new chapter is the Mutants story, as a group of young mutants are being held for psychiatric monitoring. Gathering a cast of young talent, including Anya-Taylor Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga. The New Mutants opens April 3, 2020.

Black Widow

May 1, 2020, the beginning of the summer box office season will bring to the screen from Marvel Studios, BLACK WIDOW, starring Scarlett Johansson, travels to one her most treacherous times as she returns home. Her family Melina played by Rachel Weisz, Yelena (sister) played by Florence Pugh and David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian.

The Girl in the Window

The Woman in the Window, a psychological suspense thriller directed by Joe Wright, an agoraphobic child psychologist befriends a neighbor across the street from her New York City brownstone, only to see her own life turned upside down when the woman disappears and she suspects foul play. Adapted for the screen by Tracy Letts, The Woman in the Window stars Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Julianne Moore. The Woman in the Window opens May 15, 2020.

ARTEMIS FOWL

ARTEMIS FOWL presents a fantastical, spellbinding adventure that follows the journey of a 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl, a descendent of a long line of criminal masterminds, as he seeks to find his father, who has mysteriously disappeared. Artemis Fowl is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Ferdia, Lara McDonnell, Josh Gad, Tamara Smart, Nonzo Anozie, Colin Farrell and Judi Dench. ARTEMIS FOWL opens May 29, 2020.

SOUL

The remainder of the slate sees the release of SOUL in June, Free Guy and Jungle Cruise in July, The One and Only Ivan in August, The King’s Man in September, Death on the Nile and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie in October.

Free Guy

November releases include Marvel Studios’ The Eternal's, the psychological thriller Deep Water, and DISNEY Animation Studios’ RAYA and The Last Dragon.

The King's Men

 

December brings to the screen the remake of the original Broadway musical West Side Story, from Director Steven Spielberg.

West Side Story

2020 marks the year movies returned to the theater.
