Actress Naya Rivera Presumed Dead in Drowning Accident

Former Glee actress Naya Rivera, 33, is presumed dead after an eighteen-hour search through the murky waters of Lake Piru, after her son was found alone on the lake in a boat she had rented earlier.

Authorities were notified by a passing boater of child sleeping alone in a boat that had been rented to Ms. Rivera. In what authorities called a "challenging interview" they discovered Ms. Rivera and her son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, 4, both "jumped into the lake" he crawled back into the boat and she never surfaced. He was wearing a life vest, she was not.

According to Ventura County Sheriff twitter, "Multiple teams of professional search & rescue personnel are actively searching Lake Piru for clues to the location of Naya Rivera. With over 80 people involved in the search right now, we are using helicopters, boats, ATV vehicles, and ground personnel to try and locate her. We have mutual aid for specialized dive teams en route from Los Angeles County, San Luis Obispo County, and Tulare County. We will keep you posted with any updates as we learn them. Our hearts and prayers go out all of the family and friends of the Rivera family."

Rivera began her entertainment as a child actress and model with guest appearances on The Royal Family, which she received a nomination for Young Artist Award. Her breakthrough came as Santana Lopez on Fox's Glee which ran from 2009-2015.

Rivera received notice and award nominations as early as 1992. As a member of the Glee ensemble she received four Screen Actors Guild Awards, wining in 2010. Her role on Glee propelled her into the public's heart and she received multiple nomination for People's Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards

An accomplished entrepreneur she created a children's clothing line JoJo & Izzy, after the birth of her son.

She is the third regular Glee cast member who has died. In 2013 Cory Monteith who played Finn, died of a drug overdose. Mark Salling who played Puck died of suicide after child pornography was found on his home computer.

Lake Piru, in Ventura County, the lake has 12000 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 130 feet, and is popular with boaters, swimmers, and others water sports enthusiasts. Located in Los Padres National Forest, fifty miles north of Los Angeles, it is usually a great escape during the sweltering temperatures of Los Angeles summers.
