Nashville Christmas Day Explosion Injures Three

Three law enforcement officers were injured when an intentional explosion rocked downtown Nashville, Tennessee, in the early morning hours of Christmas Day after a false report of shots fired alerted local police of a suspicious vehicle.

F.B.I. and A.T.F. agents were dispatched to the scene and have announced the bomb was an intentional act of domestic terror.

Nashville Metro police officers responded to the area of Second Avenue North, between Church Street and Commerce Street at approximately 6:30am, after a call reported shots fired. Responding officers indicated they found no evidence to suggest any shots were fired in the vicinity.

It is unclear if a second anonymous call notified local authorities of a suspicious vehicle or the responding officers, during their sweep of the area, observed the suspicious vehicle and notified Nashville Metro Bomb Squad.

The bomb squad was immediately dispatched and before they arrived the vehicle exploded.

The magnitude of the blast ripped through the downtown area, sending shrapnel debris hurtling into the streets. Bricks and broken glass became projectiles. Shock waves were felt for miles, waking residents to a belief that they were experiencing an earthquake.
