G20 Summit – Global Agenda, Global Unity

The G20 summit, the second of what the annual summits of the wealthiest nations, gathered in Rome, Italy this week to discuss and set a global agenda on multiple issues. The in-person session, interpreted as a signal from the leaders of the twenty wealthiest nations, that a level of post-pandemic management was in effect.

Each of the leaders acknowledged the pandemic is clearly a major concern and remains a challenge globally. The issues surrounding management of the pandemic remain across each of the nations, including vaccination mandates and refusal to adhere to those directives.

The G20 Finance and Health Ministers, which included members of the United States, France, the UK, Germany, China and other member nations that comprise the 20 wealthiest, addressed the Covid-19 pandemic and increased the effort in addressing the global pandemic and remain "committed to bringing the pandemic under control everywhere as soon as possible, and strengthening collective efforts to prepare for, prevent, detect, and respond to future pandemics. In this sense, the G20 will take all necessary steps needed to advance on the global goals of vaccinating at least 40 percent of the population in all countries by the end of 2021 and 70 percent by mid-2022, as recommended by the WHO," the G20 leadership stated in a press release.

The Covid-19 pandemic has essentially impacted every area of life and is recognized by the G20 leaders. Critical infrastructure systems are recognized throughout the communique as impacted from the pandemic and therefore impacting the nations of the world. Not simply the wealthiest nations, but the poorest, those who look to the world's leadership in times of need.

Climate Tops Agenda

Global warming and the climate change emerged as a top priority, among the world's leading nations. Although many have said the intent is present and in earnest and the policies are difficult if not impossible to enact.

"Climate change activists are skeptical that will happen, given how the world's industrialized countries, which emit the most greenhouse gases, are far behind the pace necessary to avert disaster. The G-20 leaders set at least a few clear climate targets. Notably, they agreed to stop funding coal plants abroad by the end of the year. They also acknowledged the need to hit net-zero emissions "by or around mid-century" and affirmed the need to provide annual funding of $100 billion to poorer countries most vulnerable to climate change," reported The Washington Post.

Many of the members of the G20 will be heading to Glasgow, Scotland for the 2021 United Nation Climate Change Conference which will address the many issues presented by member nations of the United Nations in

"The UK COP26 presidency has set out its own priorities for the talks, namely ambition to "keep 1.5C in reach", adaptation, finance and collaboration. These have been loosely summarised by the UK prime minister Boris Johnson as "coal, cars, cash and trees," reported Carbonbrief.org.

Additionally, the climate focused online magazine presented an interactive table of expectations country by country, which condensed the agendas of each nation in attendance. It can be seen here.

The United Nations Framework on Climate Change governs the session.

Billionaire Tax

The G20 also addressed the issue of unfair taxation which will mandate a minimum 15% tax by all corporations, no matter the location. It also addressed digitalization of the economy, which many corporation use to shield their assets.

"It's a game changer for American workers, taxpayers, and businesses.  And in our judgment, this is more than just a tax deal; it's a reshaping of the rules of the global economy.  Just to give you some numbers on this: One recent independent study found that this agreement to establish a 15 percent global minimum corporate tax rate — up from zero, today — would lead to at least $60 billion in additional revenues per year in the United States alone," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

G20 Commitments

The G20, in the adoption communique also returned to pre-pandemic commitments including addressing Food security, nutrition, agriculture and food systems stating, "We are concerned by famine conditions and acute food insecurity fuelled by armed conflicts in many parts of the world, particularly in the countries listed in the 2021 Global Report on Food Crises. We will foster sustainable and resilient food systems and agriculture innovation, which are vital to end hunger and malnutrition, eradicate poverty and ensure sustainability."

Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment

The G20 also reaffirm the commitment, to gender equality stating they remain "committed to put women and girls, who have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic, at the core of our efforts to build forward better. We will work on key factors such as equal access to education and opportunities, including in STEM sectors, the promotion of women's entrepreneurship and leadership, the elimination of gender-based violence, the enhancement of social, health, care and educational services, the overcoming of gender stereotypes, and the uneven distribution of unpaid care and domestic work."

The G20 also announced support in convening the G20 conference on Women's Empowerment at the upcoming summits.

Queen Elizabeth Ill

Queen Elizabeth II, 95, the world's longest reigning monarch, has been ordered to slow down and been placed on desk duty for the next couple of weeks. With a recent hospital stay, HRH Queen Elizabeth II, has been forced to cancel her upcoming appearance at COP26.

"Doctors have advised her to refrain from undertaking any official visits, more than a week after she spent the night at a London hospital for what the palace said were "preliminary investigations." The stay prompted widespread speculation about her health. It is highly unusual for the queen to miss events but in the past two weeks, she has canceled three," The Washington Post reported.

With the world wishing the Queen a speedy recovery, the inevitable, the transfer of power, is also very present.

January 6 Committee

The January 6 Committee, comprised of members of the House of Representative, is moving ahead in determining the best course of action to addressed those who fail to address the subpoenas issued by the committee.

"Our patience isn't unlimited, and engagement needs to become cooperation very soon," a select committee source told CNN, calling Meadows a "key witness" in the investigation. "As we've already made clear, anyone who tries to stonewall our effort will face the consequences," CNN reported.

Former President Donald Trump has invoked executive privilege and has instructed others who have been subpoenaed to do the same. The committee is determining if any of those will be held in contempt.

Virginia Governor Race

The Virginia Governor race has become a testing ground for the 2022 midterm elections. Republican businessman Glenn Youngkin and Democratic challenger Terry McAuliffe are battling to the last minute before Tuesday's election. As neither candidate is an incumbent due to the Virginia State constitution, which puts term limits on the gubernatorial office, the people will choose the direction of the state.

The polls place the candidates in a dead heat with Youngkin edging slightly ahead at 47.6% against McAuliffe's 47.0%. This past week, President Biden campaigned for the McAuliffe and Youngkin has inundated the people with his message of a better tomorrow, a political change, beginning November 2, 2021.

New York City Mayoral Race

New Yorker will head to the polls this week to elect a new mayor for the largest city in the United States, governing more than 8million residents. The expected results show Democratic candidate Eric Adams a presumptive winner, although the recent debate did prove that, when Republican challenger, Curtis Sliwa utilized the Donald Trump style of debate tactic, Adams lost his composure.

'"You are acting like my son when he was 4 years old," Mr. Adams said. "Show some discipline so we can get to all of these issues. You're interrupting and being disrespectful." Mr. Sliwa expressed outrage when Mr. Adams criticized him for failing to pay child support," reported The New York Times.

Tuesday's election should cap a long-term strategy for the former New York City police officer, state-senator, and Brooklyn Borough President.

Sliwa, who rose to infamy during the height of the New York City subway crime in the 1970s founded The Guardian Angels, a non-profit, non-violent group of "protectors" who patrol the subways and streets of the city independent of law enforcement. Recognized by the people, the group is often dismissed for their efforts.

Sliwa, 67, was struck by a taxi on Saturday, October 30, breaking an arm.

New York Attorney General Announces Bid for Governor

New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced her intent to run for New York State governor and will be placed on the June 2022 primary ballot.

""I'm running for governor of New York because I have the experience, vision, and courage to take on the powerful on behalf of all New Yorkers," Ms. James wrote on Twitter as she released her announcement video on Friday," reported The New York Times.

James, 63, who has made a name for herself with a single goliath victory, the handling and dismantling of the Cuomo political machine, announced Friday she would be fighting for ideals that place the individual above the corporate profit.

Ironically, James who used the Cuomo sexual harassment to advance her own political agenda, is seen as a political climber will utilize any tragedy to advance herself and her political ambitions.

Taking on the damaged, and wounded goliath in the sea of goliaths and a city filled with corruptions, including the Wall Street law firm who with full knowledge allowed and encouraged the then associates to gang rape the receptionist in her home and has refused to investigate the law firm for fear of exposing the formerly formidable, and in reality it is simply as there is no political advancement available for James in airing the dirty laundry of the morally corrupt members of the legal industry.

Unfortunately, the refusal to investigate has resulted in a belief the law does not include them and that they are above and out of reach of prosecution.
