The Hiding Place Review – Inspirational Performances of True Story

The Hiding Place, from Trafelgar Releasing, brings to the screen a stage performance of the celebrated novel of the same name, as Corrie Ten Boom and her family become the unlikely leaders of an underground WWII resistance.

For Christians, the story of Corrie Ten Boom and her remarkable survival in the Nazi prison camps, is one of the foundational books that highlight the mercies and miracles of God in the darkest of times. The film, which is staged as a play, begins in the timekeeper's shop in The Netherlands.

The Miracle Club Review – A Heartwarming, Inspirational, Comedic Drama

Corrie, played by Nan Gurley, her sister, Betsie played by Carrie Tillis, and their father, Casper, played by John Schuck, are famous for their clocks. The shop has been in their family for nearly 100 years, they are well-respected, in Haarlem, Netherlands, and as their mother died while they were young, they along with their brother Willem, Arnolda and Johanna, are all they have.

They bring in an intern, a young German, Otto, each time the family would prayer or read the bible, he would become angry, denouncing religion and the foolishness of God. Until one day he was so angry he left.

For those who know the story of The Hiding Place, the staged presentation weaves through the past and present day the concerns of the swirling storm clouds that are moving across Europe. Messages delivered of Germany's forced exile of many Jewish citizens cause much concern for Corrie and her family.

The Secret Kingdom Review – Entertaining, Imaginative, Family Friendly

While Corrie has constant questions of "what I can do?" and "how can the little I have make a difference?" and "Can the saving of one life matter in this world and darkness?" and a need to know, to see the path before she steps out, her sister Betsie, has blind faith, a belief that God will deliver, when the steps are not clear, and even in the darkest moments, the grace of God will be enough.

Soon the darkness of World War II would fall over Europe, and the boots of the Third Reich and their determined extinction plans would echo through the streets. And for others who would consider colliding events coincidence, chance, or fate, kismet, or happenstance, the Ten Boom family believe the event were the wisdom of God, and the illumination of the path they so desperately sought.

Soon they were hiding their "timepieces," code for the Jewish refugees that would escape and find a safe haven as they continued to travel to safety. Of course, for the millions who know the story, Corrie, her father, and sister would be arrested, not for hiding the Jews, but for devotion to Christ.

Soon, intern Otto returns not as a friend but as a member of the German military and we see how they are interrogated for hours, and did what no one thought, they were able to convince the Nazi's they were not hiding any Jews.

Mending the Line Review – Inspiring and Heartwarming Veteran Drama

Throughout the story, we see the two personalities, Corrie and Betsie, which reflect the two sides to every coin, the person most are, unsure, questioning, needing illumination, the person most hope to become, someone of forgiving faith, who sees hope in the deepest darkness, and takes each circumstance as a chance to show the goodness of God.

The Hiding Place is their story, a story of faith, hope, love, and forgiveness in the face of un-thinkable evil. The Hiding Place delivers an engrossing, powerful, cinematic presentation.

Inspirational, The Hiding Place opens in theaters August 3, 2023. A must see.
