Primetime Emmy nominations were announced this week, with streaming giant Netflix continuing to dominate with 107 nominations easily outpacing nearly all streaming competitors and broadcast channels in the race for viewer dominance in an increasingly congested field.

The top four stand-alone streamers are Netflix at number one, followed by FX with 93 nominations trailed by HBO/MAX with 91 nominations and rounding out the top four, Apple TV + with 72 nominations.

Stand-alone streamers continue to crush traditional television. Traditional primetime broadcast television stations ABC and CBS tied with 38 nominations each, followed by NBC with 33 nominations.
However, Hollywood heavyweights like The Walt Disney Company, which includes multiple streamers like Disney+, Hulu, FX, National Geographic, and traditional cable television channels like ABC, trounced all competitors with a whopping 183 nominations.
Amazon's Prime Video earned 37 nominations; Hulu, 26, Disney +19; MTV 10; Peacock, 9; Bravo, 6; FOX, 6 and Paramount +, 6. BBC American and Comedy Central each earned five nominations, ABC/Syndicated earned four. Investigation Discovery, National Geographic, PBS, and Showtime each earned three nominations. Adult Swim, Discovery Channel, Meta, Shudder, and YouTube each earned two nominations. BET+, Food Network, Gala Film, Meta/Facebook, Meta Quest and Starz each earned one nomination.

Jack Black Cancels Tour
Tenacious D, a rock group founded by actor Jack Black and his bandmate, Kyle Gass have canceled the rest of their Australian tour over comments made by Gass one day after the assassination attempt on former President, and convicted felon, Donald Trump.
"A video widely shared on social media from the concert in Sydney on Sunday showed Gass being presented with a birthday cake and Black urging him to make a wish. Gass then seemed to say "don't miss Trump next time" before blowing out the candles," Reuters reported.
Black, who voices the clumsy, yet lovable, character Po Dragon Warrior, in the "Kung Fu Panda" films, issued a statement denouncing the action saying, "I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form."
The statement indicated that all future shows are canceled and creative endeavors with Tenacious D and Gass are "on hold."

Rust Armorer Seeks New Trial
After the dramatic end to the Involuntary Manslaughter trial against "Rust" star Alec Baldwin, lawyers for Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence, have filed a petition seeking a new trial or a dismissal with prejudice due to the same evidentiary failures.
"This court stated on July 12 that the integrity of the judicial system demanded that the court dismiss Mr. Baldwin's case with prejudice," the lawyers wrote. "How can it be any different with Ms. Gutierrez-Reed's case, with this proven litany of serious discovery abuses?,"' The New York Times reported.
Gutierrez-Reed's attorneys are also asking for Ms. Gutierrez-Reed to be released from prison pending her appeal.
Richard Simmons Cause of Death Deferred
Fitness guru Richard Simmons, who died one day after his 76th birthday, was buried this week, while no foul play is suspected, the cause of death has been listed as "deferred" pending additional toxicology testing.
"In March, Simmons revealed that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer, underneath his eye. In the same month, he posted on social media that "I am … dying. The truth is we all are dying. Everyday we live we are getting closer to our death," The Guardian reported.

Fandango Founder Commits Suicide
J. Michael Cline, the founder of Fandango, committed suicide after jumping from the 20th floor of Kimberly Hotel on Manhattan's Upper East Side. He was 64.
Cline allegedly left a note, according to several media sources, which described a tortured man overwhelmed by the excruciating pain of "fucking up this much." He ended the note with "I love you all."
After selling Fandango to Comcast, Cline built a successful venture capital firm that invested in the tech space and health and wellness startups.
Mr. Cline is survived by his wife and six children.

Bob Newhart Dies
Bob Newhart, a comedian and actor, who got his start by recording comedy albums, and was known to have influenced the Everyman style of comedy embraced by Jerry Seinfeld and others, died this week. He was 94.
Bob Newhart is best known for two of the most successful sitcoms in television history "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart," where he played the Everyman character, struggling to understand himself, the meaning of life, and the nuances of everyday existence.
"Over the course of five decades, Newhart's popularity rarely waned, whether it was as the recording star of the comedy album "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart" (the first comedy album to win the Grammy for album of the year), the lead in two top-rated television sitcoms, or a supporting actor in movies including "Catch-22" (in which he played the timid Maj. Major), "Cold Turkey" and "Elf,"' CNN reported.
