Skynny Kitchen Review – Nutritious, Unique, Vegetarian Fare

The newly remodeled and expanded Skynny Kitchen Restaurant in North Hollywood at Magnolia and Lankershim Blvd., opened recently offering a unique twist, American fare with a healthy spin, that appealed to me.

Without explaining my review plans, I entered, as I had seen the workman over the last two weeks, and the décor was attractive, with an open ceiling exposing the duct work which seems to be the rage here in Los Angeles. The raw space was complimented by cold steel gray booths, chairs high tables with backless bar stools and tall table chairs for bar service.

Burger Lovers, Rejoice - Burger Week Comes to Orange County (Restaurants/Menu’s)

Choosing the middle afternoon between traditional lunch hour and dinner service meant the establishment was nearly empty, which was nice as I tend to make myself at home and write during these casual dining experiences.

Skynny Kitchen is self-order with table delivery. Heading to the order station which is well hidden, in the rear of the building with no directional or other neon indicator, it was a little difficult to figure out which bar was for service and others for drinks.

The menus are priceless. Not as in an exception as in there are no prices on the menu. A glitch I was told when I asked why.

Brazilian Ham & Cheese Melt Review - A Delicious, Scrumptious, Quick Bite (Recipe)

To me, this was a major drawback in the design as it is almost invasive. Too much information, TMI, I would say if I had to put a phrase on it. I don’t like to continue asking which would be considered a selling tactic and in reality it, for me, almost made me turn and leave. I prefer information. I may have ordered something different if I didn’t have to keep asking.

I ordered minestrone soup, a vegan special as most items are on the vegan, vegetarian heavy menu, and two mini slider turkey burgers. The mini sliders, a 2 inch square patty, with a dab of ketchup, and a one inch square of cheese. It is billed a mini and it is.

The Sliders has a nice taste. The turkey was well seasoned. The Hawaiian rolls soft and the combination of flavors along with the seasoned turkey added a nice zing. I asked for red onions and they were brought to table.

I also ordered Minestrone Soup. Of the two soups on the menu, Minestrone and Chili. Only one size is offered.

The Minestrone arrived, stocked full of ingredients, thick chucks of tomatoes, onions, kidney beans, chick peas and Fusilli Bucati Quinoa pasta. Deliciously seasoned. However, it arrived cold. It is not billed as gazpacho so I expected some temperature, heat, to it. I suppose I should have sent it back and explained and I did not so I cannot explain the reaction.

Smoked Burgers & BBQ To Be the First to Launch All-You-Can-Eat BBQ On The Las Vegas Strip

It is full of stock that each bite is laden with vegetables. Other than the cooler than expected temperature, it was delicious.

The combination was served in flat plastic basket with a pickle strip.  It was very filling.

Skinny Kitchen bills itself as the place where Nutritious Meets Delicious. The menu is 500 calories and under, vegetarian, and vegan products including Cheddar Cheese and Gluten free bread are available on request.

A full service restaurant offering Breakfast Skynny breakfast sandwich at 293 calories, and English muffin at 120 and Skynny Breakfast Wrap at the high end is 410 calories.

Lunch and Dinner are the same causal traditional dining experience American fare with twist.

Without moving too far into vegan territory Bison, with several varieties tops the menu as the most unusual and interesting. Even worth a second trip to sample the various creations including Smokey Bison BBQ Steak Wrap, or Greek Bison Gyros, Smoky Bison BBQ Cheeseburger.

Desserts are also available. A complete meal, Bison Burger and Oven Bakes Chili Cheese Fries would run just over 900 calories. Add a Skynny Cupcake Cake Pop at 150 and the meal tops at 1100. Prices are not available on the menu. One can assume it would run in the $15.00 range for the same three items.

Arrogant Butcher Review - Fabulous Fare, Lite Bites, Trendy and Delicious

Skynny Kitchen uses only paper and plastic products. No Styrofoam products are used which is a huge advancement for the usually green minded Californians as Styrofoam products are used quite frequently. The unhealthy, and less expensive, tableware and take out containers take nearly 100 years to biodegrade and are so harmful ingested with elements that mimic estrogen creating the possibility and potential of a generation of men who will suffer the ravages of breast cancer.

For carnivores, Skynny Kitchen offers a nutritious and unique option blending unusual pairings with traditional comforts to create just a slight crossover into vegan or vegetarian choices.

With two locations, North Hollywood, at 5166 Lankershim Blvd and West Hollywood at 8928 Santa Monica Blvd., interesting enough to visit, more than once.
