Brittany Maynard, Death with Dignity Advocate, Dies

Brittany Maynard, the Death with Dignity advocate, who recently announced, through a controversial assisted suicide law in Oregon, she would choose the time of her death has ended her struggle. She was 29.

Maynard, diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor moved to Oregon after being given six month to live. She and her husband and family approached her death, hoping to preserve whatever dignity possible.

Maynard posted this final message through social media:

"Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness, this terrible brain cancer that has taken so much from me … but would have taken so much more," Maynard wrote in a Facebook post, according to People.

"The world is a beautiful place, travel has been my greatest teacher, my close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type … Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!"

The former Californian was a dedicated adventurist and traveler who was blindsided by the medical diagnosis. The treatment, which only made her comfortable and presented no possibilities for remission or cure, altered her appearance, and took away her free will she said in a recent television interview.
