Hot Rod Mavericks Book Review – A Must For Racing Fans, Rebels, and Auto Enthusiasts

Told across 12 sections, The Spark of Genius, Compact and Captivating: Let the Fun Begin, Simple but Brilliant: A Star is Born, Smarter and Faster: BMW Seizes the Advantage, The Big League Beckons, Peak Performance: 3-Series Hits New Heights, The Mood Music Changes, Three becomes Four-And More, At the top of its Game, What Might Have Been, A Community Built Around a Badge, and Embracing Electric: The Boldest Advance of All.

The oversized specialty book is striking in design and begins five page family tree introducing the pedigree pf the BMW-3-Series, beginning with an aero engine circa 1917, the heart of the BMW. The Series 3, which these 224 pages are dedicated to didn't evolve into an automobile until 1927 and with each new series, the engineers continued the luxury visualization of their automobile from the unique 1936 328 Roadster, which became a sleeker, well-design, version of automotive luxury. The 1937 327 convertible eclipsed the '36 version and became a symbol of wealth and extravagance.

Martin Scorsese: The Iconic Filmmaker and His Work Book Review – A Must Have For Fans, Film Junkies, Collectors

By the introduction of the 1959 700 Cabriolet, a soft-top, convertible, the BMW luxury series had transitioned into a more squared, with clear defined lines, sharp corners, and less curves, a front straight mantle and essentially became the model for every iteration which would follow.

Chapters 6, 7, 8, and 9, we meet the modernized BMW. As the turn of the century, the German automaker's solidly built defined E90 luxury model reflected a style change, becoming more aerodynamic, adding a slightly elongated engine room, a stronger front, reprofiled grilles and rear lights.

The automaker also introduced six different models of the BMW 3-series E46 including the 4-door sedan, 2 door coupe, 2 door cabriolet, 4-door touring, 3-door compact, and M3. These modernized vehicles were the introduction to what would follow, with more a plush new interior, a feel of luxury, and the exterior sophistication, style, elegance, that sets BMW apart from other luxury automakers.

Lewin has crafted a showroom ready specialty book that highlight fifty years of BMW 3-Series, with more than 500 images from the pioneer efforts in the 1930s to the visualization of the dream and imagination some fifty years after the first BMW rolled off the production line.

The images are stunning, and seductive, causing the desire for the road trip, in the beautiful royal blue M4 Cabriolet retractable hardtop (page 128), to arise and suddenly the vision, a destination of the imagination, fills the mind.

Prince & Purple Rain 40 Years Book Review – Immortalizes The Iconic Musical Genius, A Must Have

Chapter 10 "What Might Have Been," introduces readers to the designs and models the manufacture passed on, while engineers designed a hatchback in the 1970s, it didn't make the cut, but decided the hatchback didn't fit the long range plan. Another exotic vehicle that didn't make the cut, the E25 Turbo Concept, with a wedge design and overhead door openings, similar to the DeLoren, the E25 didn't fit the collection design which would eventually be modified.

He also includes time tested traditions, designs, and the engineer feats that make the automobile still one of the most cherished and envied possessions in modern culture.

BMW 3 Series: 50 Years is a complete history of the evolution of the BMW, its origins, the masterplan, the designs, the continued development of an automotive vision to create a sleek, seductive, luxurious automotive experience, and a glimpse into the future as the automaker envisions.

The elegantly designed book includes first-person interviews with designers, engineers, and insiders, archival contemporary photography, including commissioned visuals, and sidebars exploring design stories, related models like the Z cars and collector insights.

BMW 3-Series: 50 Years is a must have for car lovers, aficionados, historians, and auto enthusiasts, everywhere.
