UPDATED: Eleven Injured in Isolated "Lone Wolf" Ohio State University Terror Attack

Eleven Ohio State University students were injured when a crazed "lone wolf" radicalized student went on a rampage and drove his vehicle into a crowded campus walkway, jumped from the car brandishing a butcher knife and began slashing anyone who remained standing.

At approximately 9:45am EST, the suspect, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 20, a student enrolled in the College of Business Management, mowed through a group of people and coming to rest in the center of the sidewalk a group of about 14 students rushed to the Honda Civic believing the driver might be injured in the accident. Artan, sprang to life, jumping out of the car and began his short lived attack. He referenced the usual and mentioned Anwar al-Awlaki, the radical cleric and leader of the Al-Qaeda affiliate in Yeman.

"Our officer engaged the suspect and ended the threat," OSU Police Chief Craig Stone said.. "We were very fortunate that an OSU police officer was there and took quick action."

Of the eleven injured five sustained injuries common to vehicle-pedestrian related accidents; two were stabbed and two others had lacerations. Two additional students sought medical attention on their own for injuries sustained at the scene. All are expected to survive.

Monday morning, the first day back from Thanksgiving Break was anything but usual. The entire campus was still festive with spirits high celebrating with the OSU Buckeyes football victory over arch rival Michigan State and looking ahead with eyes on the bowl games. It a great to be a on campus, and a Buckeye!

Then, around 9:45am EST, the mood diminished replaced with terror and fear as the active shooter alarm system was activated on the Ohio State University's, Columbus, Ohio, main campus. Students, faculty and support staff all received updates and messages through the OSU Buckeye Emergency Management which sent texts messages to shelter in place and run, hide, fight.

The initial reports of no injuries were quickly dismissed and alarms sounded throughout the capital city and wider through the surrounding countryside and state as word spread of the "active shooter" at loose on the main campus.

The official Twitter feed for the @OSU_EMFP sent out this message "Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College."

"Run, hide, fight" is standard protocol for active shooter situations. It means: Run, evacuate if possible; Hide, get silently out of view; or Fight, as a last resort, take action to disrupt or incapacitate the shooter if your life is in imminent danger, as reported on CBS.com.

All classes will resume on Tuesday, November 29, 2017.

This is a developing story.
