Theater Shooter, James Holmes who walked into the Aurora Cinemark 16, in full tactical gear, tossed a smoke bomb designed to get his targets to stand, and systematically slaughtered 12 moviegoers and wounded another 70.

Today Judge Carlos A. Samour, in a crowded courtroom ordering Holmes to stand and handed down the carefully deliberated sentence to the former Ph.D. student.

Determined by nine women, three-man jury, the sentence, short of the death penalty, was as much as any person could hope. The jury declined the death penalty, a decision that caused concern and heartache among survivors and families, opting for life sentences without parole.

Holmes was convicted on July 16 on 165 counts, 24 counts of first degree murder. He was sentenced to 12 life sentences plus 3318 years.

For each attempted murder count, Holmes received the maximum sentence of 48 years plus five years of mandatory parole for a total of 3,216 years.

He received the maximum sentence for each 32 years plus five years, second degree murder convictions totally 96 years. He received six year for possession or control of an explosive or incendiary device.

After the Judge pronounced sentencing he said, "Sheriff, get the defendant out of mu courtroom, please." To which applause spontaneously erupted.
