Alanis: Thirty Years of Jagged Little Pill, from The Quarto Group, brings to the pages a celebrated presentation of the iconic Alanis Morissette who burst onto the scene in June 1995 with her debut album, Jagged Little Pill.
Author Selena Fragassi returns to the first time she heard Alanis, as a seventh grader still in Catholic school, and her "You Oughta Know," played and this young girl shell shocked by the lyrics told her uncle these words were not "okay to listen to!" And she explains he told her maybe not now, but in a few years, remember her name and "put it on again. It will make sense to you then."

Throughout the 224 pages and chapters labeled, simply by numbers, we begin to see how this young girl was transformed and understood how the women before each of us, in whatever genre, paved the way for all of us to go higher, to become more, just as we will pave the way for those who have yet realized their future direction.

And Joni Mitchell and Carole King opened their hearts so Alanis could feel comfortable uncaging hers, while Courtney Love, Liz Phair, Tori Amos, and PJ Harvey flipped the bird at the industry so Alanis could to the same."

Alanis: Thirty Years of Jagged Little Pill follows a chronological presentation of Alanis, the background and history of her life is feature in "One: You Learn," and by the end of that first chapter, the success of Jagged Little Pill has drawn the comparisons of Alanis Morissette to Carole King's Tapestry. The success was phenomenal, her shock words seemed to speak to the masses who were tired of being told to fight into the box of life, and in an explosion realized the boundaries didn't fit.

On each of the chapter pages the author has included quotes about Morissette from fellow musicians including Pink on "Chapter One: You Learn," Taylor Swift on "Chapter Two: All I really Want," Olivia Rodrigo, for "Chapter Three: Wake Up," Garbage frontwoman, Shirley Manson for "Chapter Four: Hand in my Pocket," Halsey, for "Chapter Five: Ironic," Katy Perry for "Chapter Six: Perfect," Diablo Cody for "Chapter Seven: Mary Jane."
