Throughout the 224 pages and chapters labeled, simply by numbers, we begin to see how this young girl was transformed and understood how the women before each of us, in whatever genre, paved the way for all of us to go higher, to become  more, just as we will pave the way for those who have yet realized their future direction.

In her "Introduction: Head over Feet" Fragassi explains, "Sister Rosetta Tharpe slayed so Nancy Wilson might pick up a guitar and with her sister, Ann, establish the band Heart. Janis Joplin wailed so that Amy Winehouse could find her voice. Stevie Nicks found heartbreak and revenge in songs so that Taylor Swift could open her diary to us all. MC Sha-Rock would spit rhymes so that Nicki and Cardi and Megan Thee could wordsmith their way to number one. Billie Holiday bared all and risked her life do that Beyonce could help open our eyes even more to why Black Lives matter. Madonna broke all the rules so that Britney and Gaga could be provocateurs. And Joni Mitchell and Carole King opened their hearts so Alanis could feel comfortable uncaging hers, while Courtney Love, Liz Phair, Tori Amos, and PJ Harvey flipped the bird at the industry so Alanis could to the same."
